Blowing coat vent

Why oh why is it when you send off your entries for a show, the second it hits the mail the bitches that your entered with the nice full coat start to lose it like needles off a dead christmas tree?:(

We have a show this weekend with both Diva and Vogue and both of them are so naked. Vogue started a week and half ago and Diva 2 days ago. Diva, I swear lost her entire undercoat today. Sigh. Rachel took one look at her and exclaim "oh my what the heck happen to her coat!"

Oh well, atleast it is a small show so hopefully the judge will be really into structure because you can certainly see it. :rolleyes2:

The good news is Jaime who was losing his coat a month ago is starting to grow it back

That seems to be the golden rule...enter them and it will blow! Thankfully Noah who has blown coat always seems to look better out of coat than in...either that or im just thankful it requires minimal work for me to take out the extra coat!! :)

We're in the same boat here, Shelli. I had to pull Checkers from the August shows because she's suddenly decided she'd rather be cool than furry. We could build another Sheltie with the coat that's coming out. I'm hoping it grows back quickly for the fall shows! I'll be shedding like mad... :rolleyes2:

Well it seemed the judge today wasn't into smooth Collies.:wink2: Neither Diva or Vogue won. Diva didn't look horrible after she was groomed and fluffy up but nothing we did helped Vogue.

Jaime however got WD and BOW for is 8th point. 7 more to go! He did very good. He didn't react after the judge learned over quickly into his face as he returned after the down and back, lunging at him and pointing at him with his index finger. It really looked like he was scolding him. He gave him the are you crazy look but held his ground. Good boy Jaime. Diva was not as amused and gave him the stink eye.

Round 2 tomorrow - we don't think we are going to show Vogue as she is that bad after todays grooming.

Congrats on Jamie's wins he sure is becoming your little star. Sorry to hear about the girls. It sure seems with this heat wave many of our dogs have blown coat recently. Gypsy did lastweek. I have a shopping bag full ready to be sent of to be weaved.

Good Job Jaime...some judges are really just bizarre and im not sure what goes though their heads sometimes...And makes me think that they really dont know shelties to be over zealous in their movements..sigh...good thing your dogs took it in stride!! Sign of a well socialized dog!:smile2:

Way to go Jaime!

This is a huge pet peeve of mine... you wouldn't judge Working breeds by making threatening gestures to the handlers, would you? Herding dogs are generally reserved and cautious. Grabbing them on the floor, lunging at them, and poking from behind without warning is just rude to the dog. (I had a judge once who walked around behind the dog after the down-and-back and grabbed his tail, presumably to measure it, with no warning at all to me. Poor dog!)

I know we wrote this info down in our little judges book. I saw him doing that to the Corgi before us and thought hope he doesn't do this to the shelties. Jeez
