Chandler's B12 level Blood tests

I so hope that the B12 injections make Chandler feel better and that he finds his appetite. Try that yummy liver again, young man!

Sending good thoughts and wishes your way that the new treatment helps Chandler and his appetite is back soon!

I hope the B12 shot will give Chandler a boost of energy and increase his appetite.

This might be completely off course, but has your vet checked his mouth for any cracked teeth or abnormalities. You mentioned that he gets excited about food, but then won't eat it. Maybe something inside his mouth hurts when he tries to eat?

Yes I thought of his mouth also and had my boyfriend who is a dentist check and than had the vet check also when we went in. I had a felling that wasn't it though since he'll eat a few milk bones on occasion. Thanks for the suggestion though and keep them coming everyone they are appreciated. I'm determined to get him eating again.

Katherine and Ann thanks so much for your good thoughts. It's so nice to have the support and suggestions of everyone here. How did I miss this site all these years as much as I'm on the computer ? Well I've found it now and am enjoying
getting to know everyone.

Thanks so much,
Dawn

Chandler's vet visit..today 7-22-10

Well we went to the vet at 10:00 this morning talked with the vet and went over some of Chandler's issues and how to proceed at this moment. As I said his B12 is really low and this can be caused by his Pancreatitis or the fact that he also has bacteria in his intestines. He said the sulfasalizine could possibly be causing some extra bacteria. His body also doesn't break down fat properly so his triglyceride levels are high. So he has a few issues going on that we will try and treat one at a time so we know what is working and eliminate things we don't find to be working. We gave him a B12 shot this morning and I gave him a pill for nausea today and will give one tomorrow. We're hoping his stomach may calm down a little in order for him to eat something healthy today and will start out bland. I will also take him back on Monday for another B12 shot and discuss any changes we may see in him.
So tonight for dinner I'll go back to basic I'll try some baked skinless chicken and pasta or brown rice. I am still going to try Rachel's frozen liver suggestion
also since I think the liver will be a benefit to his nutrition. Well I'm praying I'll see some progress in the next day or two and will keep you all posted.

Because of my Lupus, I cannot retain any of the B Vitamins although B12 is the worst. I inject myself daily with an intramuscular B12 injection. When I miss one I feel sleepy, lethargic and depressed. My joints are stiffer and I ache.

I think you will find that Chandler will gain back some of his "muchness" to quote a recent movie. I know I do. Sometimes you will find it is the simple win that gives you the most hope.

Thinking of you both.

I hope the B12 shot will do the trick and get him eating again! I was going to suggest the freeze dried liver as Rusty loves that, but you've already tried that.

I'm sorry to hear about your lupus I know how difficult it is dealing with an illness. I suffer from fibromyalgia and it is not fun. Are you home from vaca ? I've been checking to see if you have any new updates on Kai's condition. How is she doing ? I hope she is still seizure free.
Keeping you in our prayers,
Dawn
