Christmas puppy

I was at my hairdresser yesterday,and she was quite upset about some recent happinings at her house since Christmas day.

Some time ago,I posted here about a gal selling puppies here in town,at a busy street intersection.As a matter of fact it was right outside the resturant where I used to work. I knew these were puppy mill dogs.

But Robin (hairdresser) fell in love with a puppy,and purchased it as a gift for her daughter for Christmas. Never expecting that this dog indeed had parvo.She said it looked perfectly fine,all the papers for the dog were in order. And a hefty price tag to go along with it.

Well yesterday,the puppy died of parvo at vets office.It had been sick shortly after bringing it home.Unknowingly Robin was not thinking parvo. Vet visit confirmed indeed this 8 week old pup had it,and was suffering terrible.

I asked her if she contacted this gal,about what had happened,and she did. This puppy seller told her that she had a "friend" that had another puppy for her if she was interested,for the hefty price of like 800.00. HELLO!!!!

Robin told this woman that she already paid a huge price for a puppy,and also a huge vet bill was owed still. Well the puppy seller said.."I'll pay the differance" on the new puppy.

Robin told her...that she was giving her no money,to her or to her friend.If anything she (seller) should buy the pup to help replace the sick puppy she sold originally.

Before she even thinks about bringing another puppy into her home,she has to get her home totally sanitized to rid the home of parvo,wherever this puppy was during its short life with her.

I feel for her,such a terrible thing to go through.
 
Poor puppy. :cry: I'm sorry for their loss.

Honestly, I will be really surprised if this lady makes good on the pup. The very fact the initial reaction from the seller was "my friend is selling pups for ..." is a huge clue to her scruples.

I do hope she completely sanitizes the house before even THINKING about bringing a puppy home again. Parvo is one nasty nasty virus.
 
That poor puppy and such a shame this little girl had to suffer the loss of what I am sure was the best gift ever. As we all know all our furbabies are gifts to us. It makes me sick every time I hear about these selfish,greedy,monsters. :(
Shame on that woman.
 
very, very sad.. I wish people who knowingly sold puppies from puppy mills could be prosecuted, not to mention the puppy mills themselves.
 
Oh, this is terrible... parvo is an awful, awful disease and I'm so thankful that I've never had to see a dog through it. Sad for the puppy, sad for Robin, and surely sad for Robin's daughter.

At the very least, the puppy had a loving home and good vet care for the last week of its life.
 
It's hard not to judge, not fully understanding all the circumstances, but my initial reaction is I would NOT want another dog from this woman.

It's an expensive lesson to learn....you just DON'T buy puppies on a street corner.

Robin should run and keep running and chalk it up to experience.

lol...I just noticed it says Sheltie Demigod under your name.I love it.

I called Robin last night,left a message as I had alot of info to pass along to her,as to the steps to take care of her home,etc. But I have as yet to be able to reach her.I may just have to stop in and give her the info.

She is wanting another pup,but knows right now it is not safe to bring a new puppy in.Yesterday her mind was whirling,just finding out the puppy had passed.
I will give her a day or two,and contact her again. I do know one thing..this spring when this witch has her butt out on this corner again selling puppies,she will be turned in.

It is total ignorance really,as the owners of the resturant (where I used to work) the only reason why they have givin her permission is because they know her.Thats not good enough reason for me.

I should have done something about it this summer,when I was working there. Everyone must know these are puppy mill dogs,how could one not know,when there is a miriad of every breed there sometimes.She makes me sick~
 
Oh jeez, Michele - how stomach-turning!! I'm sorry for Robin and her daughter but really sorry for the puppy - I was a vet tech for years and watching a pup suffer from parvo is just awful.

I hope someone can indeed put a stop to that woman selling pups on a street corner for god's sake!!

Sorry to here she could not save the pup.

I have said before and will again I HIGHLY recommend contacting people through ASSA. In my experience you will not pay more yet you will get a well bred puppy with far lower chances of problems. And one vet bill will offset any cost difference easily if that is a factor.

That said I feel bad for the poor family. While I hate to see puppy mills I also hate to see bad owners. If they could have caught this guy in time at least he would have had a good home.
