Christmas trees and shelties

I was thinking about this with the teenagers, and pups what I used to do.
Well if anyone really cares? :lol:

Its a worry what these shelties will get into. When Lucky and Lil' Lady were younger, I put a wire fence around the tree, dripping lights on the fence. They never bother it. the ornaments don't become chew toys. Well I quess Lil' Lady gave me her approval, and liked the deco on the tree.

I think I have velcro on my leg when I am doing something, she is right there with me, watching every move. Great to have the Lil' Lady Approval. She would just love placing the ornaments on the tree, if she could.

Just an idea I thought I would throw out there for Sheltie Safety.
 
Our problem is the cat. He loves to knock ornaments off and bat them around. We placed all the ornaments up on higher branches, thinking that would solve the problem. I thought it had...until today when I found an ornament under the desk in a completely other room! :lol:
 
Our only issue is the dogs playing under the tree, and the occasional time they catch their reflection in the ornaments. Then they just try to lick the cute little puppy peering out of the bulb.
 
Hmm, well only problem I've ever had was one year Deska lifted his leg on mum's xmas tree. Now that was embarrassing.
 
Danny's has always left our tree alone and never tried to pee on it:lol: Now my cat loved to climb the tree trunk and perch inside of it near the top like a giant ornament :smile2:
 
Storm is having fun with ours, I have it in a rotating stand so it turns around.
So far she hasn't touched anything but she is small enough that she fits under the tree, so she sees a dangling ornament and follows it around under the tree as it spins around in circles just looking and following it, Taylor Made for the Bored Sheltie :biggrin2: as if we needed to have her to do circles anymore then she already does:wink2: The other 2 could care less, The Christmas Village however is a completely different matter with all the sounds and moving pieces and being only 18"s off the floor
 
Miko barked like crazy at the tree when it was in the box (just bought a brand new pre-lit one yesterday… OMG… so simple!... I should have done this years ago!) … Anyway, once it was out of the box and put together, he pretty much ignored it. He walks back and forth past it like it's been there all along.

The cat likes to walk under the tree and lay down there for a bit… I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Miko doesn't try to follow the cat under there. That would be a disaster!!!! :razz:
 
Lil' Lady was so tiny she could have walked under the tree, and Lucky he never chewed or tried to get under the tree. Lucky did pee on the tree skirt, picked that up and washed it right away. He wished me a wee wee Merry Christmas.

So up went the fence and the lights. Love all your stories.
 
This is Lerwick's first Xmas, and we weren't sure how he'd react to the tree. So far, so good... he isn't interested in the tree... except when Majo (our cat) is hunkered under it, and then Lerwick will make half-hearted attempts to chew branches, but one "off!" from us is all it takes to discourage that.

But, we also have a fake tree, and I'm sure that makes a difference (both to cat and dog). Our first year in the house (2008), we had a real tree, and Majo was much more interested in it that year than the year previous, or any year since. And of course she was always drinking the tree's water. :rolleyes2:

I have decided, however, that we won't be putting any presents under the tree until after Lerwick is crated for the night on Xmas Eve, and that no gifts are allowed to have any ribbons/bows/tags stuck on them, because if Lerwick doesn't chew them off, Majo will! :lol:
