Collar Cleaning - ?

Does anyone clean their dogs' collars/harnesses/leashes regularly? I am trying to find a way to clean them since they "feel" gunky after hiking in the woods and my dogs wearing them for extended periods. Afraid to toss them in the washing machine or dishwasher! Thanks!!
 
Mine are nylon. I put them in a lingerie bag and drop them in with the towels. I dry on low (again in the bag) with the towels for about 20 minutes - they are still a tad damp so I usually let them drip dry on a door knob. They come out fine.

I do the same thing. I used to put them in an old pillow case the I never used, but my lingerie bag works better. Problem is, now I have to get a new one for my bras! The things we do for our dogs...:rolleyes2:

You really shouldn't wash bras in the washer anyway (it can ruin foam in molded bras and twist underwires)
Use a wool/lingerie wash (I *love* Soak- no need to agitate) to wash by hand instead and drip dry.
Actually, that's a good plan for fabric dog collars since it's also rec'd for baby clothes.

Oh and for people with leather/composite collars looking to clean them- there's a leather clean you can use in washers if you don't want to do the Pony Club dove soap-> neatsfoot oil-> leather conditioner route. I use Pepede, the texture is weird since it is fat based but it does a great job.
 
DO you take the tags off before you wash the collars?? Hm, don't want to damage the washer, but I guess inside a pillow case would be safe enough... My bras are washed/dried on delicate cycle, and only w/ bras, nothing else in there so they don't get squished......

To be honest, I'm a worker. My bras will just get nasty and need to be replaced within a couple months anyway and I don't like sports bras, so it dosn't really make a difference if the washer ruins them or not.

Thanks for the link! I'm just getting into leather tooling and am planing to make the dogs some custom collars. The leather cleaner will really come in handy.:yes:

Oh and- Don't be put off by the price (or the fact most of the directions on the label are in german) you only need a capful for a load (one load for me is a pair of full seat breeches and a pair of half chaps) so it lasts forever. Just store it in a plastic bag! Since it is fat based it congeals and smears. There are a couple of other brands but that's what was rec'd when I bought my last pair of breeches.

No "sorry" necessary from this quarter. I gotta tell ya, I would never have had the nerve to comment on this subject had you not offered the "sorry". (I kind of felt like it might be a bit over the line for a man to comment on the "bra" topic). BUT, now that the ice is broken, I am having a great chuckle over this topic. (It's not that I am making light of the topic, I'm sure it's a big thing for those involved). I responded the same way a few days ago when one of our ladies here commented about not doing Agility (with all of the running) because she didn't want to give herself a concussion. :smile2: Ladies of SN, I love you all! You make being here soooo much fun.

Uuuuuh ya... that was me on concussion comment:o. A friend of mine told me that and I just HAD to share it.:lol:
