Collie? No, Sheltie!

When people call Phoebe a mini collie, I just tell them "close, but she is a sheltie" Frankly just their knowing collie is pretty good these days I think. My generation knew the collie breed because of the show Lassie which has loooooong been off the air. Not many people care about knowing all the breeds. Mostly just dog people do.

Yeah. I admit. When people tell me they have no clue what a Sheltie is, I always say, "it's like a small Collie, but it's a separate breed, not a mini Collie, and way cuter". LOL.

I think I had that with a few people too.

Funny story: My folks had a Sheltie (Prince) before my brother and I were born, so we grew up with one. 20-something years later, I got my first Sheltie and took him to see my folks and brother. My brother says, "when is he going to grow?" and since we had one, I was clearly confused. I said, "what do you mean?" and he says, "Prince was bigger" and I said, "no brother, Prince wasn't bigger, we were smaller....a LOT smaller". LMAO!!! According to my folks, Prince was the same size as Miko. But, growing up, I remember Prince being taller than me if we lifted him front paws off the ground. Haha!
When I was a little girl I had a horse. My memory of her was that she was an enormous mare who could run like the wind. When I asked my father about her some years later, I learned that she was actually an elderly shetland pony who refused to break out of a walk :-) It's funny how time changes things!

I've been asked numerous times how big Oberon will be when he grows up. When I say he's fully grown, some people still say, "No, I mean when he's an adult".
I get that a LOT because my girls are on the smaller end of the sheltie size chart. Everyone thinks Savannah is still a puppy. She is coming up on 3 this year. The only thing that grew bigger on her was the diva attitude:happy:

With Cody (Sable), I got the Collie thing all the time. Almost never with Zulu. Most say "beautiful dog!" For Shelties, I believe that Lassie is more alive than we think.

OMG. I LOL'd when I read she refused to break out of a walk and was a shetland pony. Seriously, still LOL. HAHA!
