Colonel Underpants Under Threat

Oh no!!!
I could not have said it better than Sharon! I echo her words! Trini would be a great resource for sure!
Prayers and gentle hugs to the Colonel! When are they planning to do the surgery?

Just me... but I would get a second opinion with this severe of a surgery.

I just had the wind knocked out of me! I can’t imagine how terrible you feel with this News.
Gloria, fortunately the vet who did the ultrasound is who I consider my second opinion. She agrees -- this is what needs to happen. I saw the extent of the tumor (and a complimentary gall bladder scan as well; Beckon's fine there), and there's no question. I used to be an oncology nurse, and that helped inform my family's decision. I just can't see putting him through a massive surgery, then chemo/radiation for months, upsetting his entire existence for an uncertain outcome. This outcome is pretty clear-cut: remove leg=remove cancer=cure!

I was never offered an amputation for Gavin, even though I brought it up. probably because radiation treatment = $$$$. I have thought about what if I had insisted....but you can't second guess these things or you will go insane.
Gavin was a very healthy 10, btw. Part of the issue with canine treatments I found was that often time diagnosis was limited by the 'if it doesn't change the treatment it doesn't matter what exact kind/stage of cancer it is' idea. and that effects statistics of outcomes. And time frames are very different. Gavin is 14 now, and if he hadn't slipped on stairs would probably be fully mobile on 4 legs. you just can't predict things....

Good luck with the surgery and recovery. It will probably be harder on you than Beckon.

You know what is best for your dear boy. I just keep seeing that sweet face that you posted! I just wish he did not have to go through any of this! It is just not fair!
Trini will best the best support system for you. Her compassion and understanding of the situation will help you navigate your way!
Virtual hugs to you! :hugs

Oh Chris, my heart goes out to you, you are a wonderful caring dog mum. It must have been a hard decision to make, even though you know you're doing the right thing.

You have gone through so much heartache in recent years, hope you are holding it together ok. Know that we are all here for you in heart.

I do hope the Colonel is back on his feet soon, if only 3 of them! Big hugs to both of you.
