coughing

Sweetie has been coughing and I am worried. She is not acting sick . At first I thought it was hair as she was shedding. I I am taking her to see her doctor but am worried. She is 9 years old all shots are current . I have listened to her heart and lungs. Sounds strong and clear but there is a wheeze near her throat. She hacks and nothing comes up. She has been healthy but I am wondering about CHF. I know I shouldnt have read things that do nothing but worry me but I like to be informed on things. I am hoping its just a cold but something just dont seem right. None of my other furkids are sick. What do you all think. Please if anyone has a older sheltie that has been coughing give me insite.
 
Indy's CHF showed up as coughing when he would lie down.
I would recommend a vet visit. Hopefully it is a cold and not something more serious; but your fears are not unfounded. Good luck and keep us posted.

By the way, Indy is doing well on the medications.
 
Awww :(, poor baby, please keep us posted on how Sweetie is doing today. You're on top of it, so it's going to be fine :wink2:. But as we all know, it's sooooo hard not to worry. :rolleyes2:
 
It might be the hair that Sweetie is shedding maybe that's why she hacks but nothing comes up. Maybe she got some hair in her food or water and its scratching her throat. That's what my dog use to do. My friend has and older dog and she coughs and wheezes and she took her dog to the vet and the vet said that her dog has asthma or her dog was reverse sneezing. I forget which one, but Max has asthma and he coughs hacks and wheezes all the time. I bet your dog will be fine. But keep us posted we will be here. She could just have a cold. :yes:
 
My parents chihuahua has a cough too. It was only in the morning, but she is now coughing all day. She has an appointment with the vet tomorrow.

She is never outside. She goes walk on our deck sometimes, but that's about it. So I have no idea how it would be kennel cough. Bailey doesn't have a cough and she goes to the dog park every weekend. Very strange...

Maybe these chihuahuas are plotting something...

Could she have caught kennel cough from another dog? That can cause a hacking cough. Usually it isn't serious and will go way within a few days.
 
That is what Louie was doing and the vet did x-rays and it was a collapsing trachea. He is on cough medicine now and it is helping but still coughs when he gets too excited.
 
Glad Sweetie is not acting sick. I am also glad you are taking her to vet. Please keep us posted. Prayers going out your way.

I was kinda wondering about that too! We did move to a new house and when I was getting it ready did bring the shelties to hang with me. They had left 3 pit bulls locked in the house. I did have the house cleaned and had all the carpet out and floors swept BEFORE bringing my babies with. But just maybe there was some germs left behind from them. The chihuahuas have the vaccine for kennel cough and Buddy had it also from the rescue he came from but it was a few years ago. Sweetie has never had it. The breeder I got her from only gave her her shots everyother year. When I got her last xmas I made sure I got her up to date But no kennel cough vaccine. Buddy did have a runny nose after moving but never seemed sick and The 2CHi's either. Sweetie goes Friday as the vet is busy but they said if she gets worse they would see her after hours. I hate waiting but our vet is the very best in our area. Im worried sick but I am keeping a close eye for changes and like the clinic says If she has any changes all I got to do is call and he will go in after hours...I will let you all know about whats going on. Thanks for praying for us! It sure helps being able to talk to you all about this...
