Denture Bones....don't touch them

Word of warning....I was given free samples of some kind of greene denture bone which I gave to the pups on Friday night.

Bacca was not interested, so Indy ended up eating both of them himself. He had the most horrible diarrhea afterwards. I used to feed my forever pup, Timber, Denta-bones. It would take him 3 days to finish one but only now do I correlate loose stools with him eating those bones.

From now on, I'm staying clear of them. Does anybody else have similar experience?

I do want to find something for the boys to chew on to improve their teeth and am reviewing the raw food thread for ideas. But I welcome other ideas too!

Yes, I have had a similar experience. It was with the Zukes Z-Ridge bones. Caleb had the cranberry one in a night, and the following day, he had terrible pink diarrhea :/
I'm very disappointed... Those are the only bone type thing Caleb is allowed to have, considering how he tears his teeth up on regular bones.

A while ago I got a bag of the smaller green dentu-bones. No problem with the runs, but Rockstar ate them whole. I actually got the smaller ones because Msizie has such a tiny mouth she needed the little ones. THey stuck to her very thick mane and Rocky tried to untangle it for himself. Poor Maizie THankfully nothing happened to him...but I was on edge for a few days after that. I now get them the cornstarch bones

I give mine 'Greenies' and only have a problem if they have too much, although their poo the next day is slightly green and a bit soft. We had warnings issued here about ensuring dogs are given the correct size for their weight (so I have 2 different sizes). Greenies were made softer after a number of dogs got blockages from the original recipe because it did not break down enough in the gut.

I only give them 1 a week now because if I give it to them a few days in a row their poo is very runny.

I brought some venison ears last week and they are doing wonders for cleaning teeth - esp Deska. They are big so I cut them in half and give Deska the knotted opening and Tully the tip. They are also very low in fat.

A year or two ago there were a lot of warnings about Greenies...that they got stuck in throats and could choke a dog, were not digestible...for some reason they seem quite popular around here but I wouldn't touch them. I know a few people who've had problems with them.

My vet also said not to feed them to my dogs, as did my dog food store for the same reasons you mentioned below.

My pups like them and have had no problem with them- my problem is they are way expensive so we've been looking at alternatives. wish we could get venison ears or something similar.

I know - way too expensive, I dont see how they can justify the price.

Has anyone tried bully sticks? they smell gross but my dogs love them. does anyone have any feedback on them?

thanks!
