Difference in K9 Advantix or Frontline Plus vs Cheaper flea meds?

I first started using Frontline plus since my puppy was 1 months old thne switched to K9 Advantix 6 months later. Both these flea med works really well and does it job. I truly believe that you get what you pay for, therefore I never bought the cheaper flea meds like BioSpot which cost about $18-20 for a 4 month supply compared to K9 Advantix about $48 for a 4 month supply.

What is the difference from K9 Advantix and Frontline plus from BioSpot and other cheaper flea meds?
 
K9 Advantix and Frontline Plus use different chemicals. I'd imagine that Biospot uses different chemicals as well.

My guess is that Biospot isn't as effective as Advantix or Frontline, which is probably why vets don't usually recommend it or carry it. I wouldn't use it on my dogs, I've heard too many bad things about it.

I used Frontline Plus this last summer. It seems to work well in my area.
 
I can get both Frontline and Advantix over here (I presume they are the same meds). The main difference for me is that to buy Advantix you have to either go to the vets or have a prescription. Frontline you can buy in pet shops that have a licence to sell it, in fact even human chemists sell it now!

I have always used Frontline and am very happy with it, the cheaper meds are just not as effective and sometimes you have to buy larger quantities of them to do the dog which means they end up costing the same.:rolleyes2:

There is a veterinary website in the UK where I buy my flea and worm meds as it is cheaper and they sell them per item, which works better for me as with a dog the size of Cadbury I have to buy two boxes of wormers just for one treatment and then I have a tablet left over.

The site is fully licensed and it is well used by animal professionals which is why I went with it.

really one month?! My pups are six-weeks old now, so I can give them flea medicine?! I've been bathing them and using the flea comb-- which is VERY time consuming and not even that effective.

oops sorry, not one month...hahaha...I think it was 2 months since the Advantix recommend that the youngest is 8 weeks. Sorry, it's been a while so I forgot.
 
I know that all different brand have different kind of medication. The cheaper med must work or else it would be out of business. Is it that the more expensive med uses a higher grade medication then the other ones? I know that in some cheaper flea meds they use natural remedy like peppermint and clove oil and some other stuff.

No it is not labeled for pups under 7 or 8 wks depending on which product you use. Some products can not be use under 6 months so read the labels.
 
Fleas have been especially bad around here this year and a lot of people who use Frontline for years are still seeing fleas in their yard, dog and home. I have fought it all summer and finally decided to switch to K-9 Advantix and it is working like a charm so far. Maybe the dogs just get immune to one kind and you need to switch every so often. It seem like other people around the country arent having this problem so maybe it is because we have had such wet weather this year that the fleas are just extra bad and a different solution was needed.
 
agreed. We have used frontline for years, but this year the fleas have won with it. we just dosed with advantage yesterday and so far so good.
