digestive issues - help please!

Keep an eye on his rectum. Prolonged soft stools are a leading cause of anal gland problems.

Well

Finally - firm poop today! Yay! :biggrin2: The things we fur parents get excited about, right! So, now I need to reintroduce a pro-biotic and then his regular food. In doing this, any thoughts on protocol - do I still give rice and turkey in decreasing amounts while increasing the raw stuff back in bit by bit? Then veggies last? I know I want to go slow - sensitive tummy. I have other supplements to give but if I do too much at once and he has a set back, I won't know what it is, right?

Pumpkin!

Get some canned puréed pumpkin. Not the pumpkin pie premix with the spices in it, just the 100% pumpkin. It works wonders to normalize their stools. Helps both bulk up stool when your dog is soft and also provides extra fire to prevent constipation. You can use it daily. Just a teaspoon or two will do it.

My dog had a hard time with Primal when I tried it. I currently feed him nutro ultra holistic. Also, if you are supplement feeding any kind of dry kibble or even treats, you have to be careful in combination with the raw diet. Raw food transits faster through their system then dry food or treats. If you feed a dry food or treat like a milkbone and then feed raw, it can slow down the transit time of the raw, build up more bacteria in their system and cause the loose stools,

My Shelby

Hi All,

Frankie's poop is still quite soft - doesn't seem normal though the vet said not of concern unless explosive or watery :eek2: - but I have no idea how long is too long for very soft to be okay before BACK to the vet again for what - poop test?:confused2::ick Any thoughts?

My baby was having problems with constipation too. Vet said give him 1/4 cup fiber one cereal a day! Tried that once a day, no help. Increased it to twice a day, helped tremendously! Only problem now is when his "silly Mommy" relents & lets him have a little cheese! He has to pay the price then, so I try to stay strong, just hate to see him want something so much!! So, I don't buy cheese for myself anymore!! LOL! He also has anal gland problems, which I always worry about. I mix the cereal with beef or chicken broth to make it a little tastier for him!! Have noticed when he doesn't have it, he gets backed up again. So Fiber One is a staple on my shopping list. Try it, it might help. The pumpkin did nothing for him when I tried that. Traveling also causes problems for his digestion, so have to work with that too. Just a thought, maybe a contributing factor for Frankie??

My first post, please forgive the rambling! I get carried away talking about my Shelby!!
