Do Shelties have weak stomachs?

Lucky is a picky eater, Lady will eat anything, but no they don't have sesitive tummies. The only thing Lucky tossed his food up on was Nutro, because they changed the receipe.

I get aggravated with this, because WHAT WORKS, WHY FIX IT. Lucky even knew when they changed the receipe on Wellness fish, he turned up his nose. Lady liked it. So now we buy Taste of the Wild Salmon, that is what they both will eat.

BRATS!!!

 Sca barks hurry up until I fill his bowl once I open the food bin. Then he eats it all and returns a couple more time and rattles the bowl. He has slowed down a little (he now pauses at the 90% mark) but you would think he was starved.

Bailey used to have a stomach of steel. When I first brought her home, the breeder put her food in a purina puppy chow bag. I guess I wasn't paying attention when she told me that it was other food in the bag. I bought a new bag of purina when her food ran out and it was different kibble. I tried to find the food Bailey was given, but no store near me carried it. Therefore, I had to instantly switch her. I was so worried, but she didn't have any problems with the switch.

After a month on purina, I gradually switcher her to wellness. After being on wellness for a little over a month, she developed a sensitive stomach. It happened completely out of the blue. Maybe she stressed herself because I went back to work. I'm not sure.

Now that's an interesting theory. Shelties are such sensitive dogs. Too bad we have to go to work, whether or not they like it!

My pup's a picky eater and doesn't eat much in general, but she hasn't had major tummy problems. Let's hope it stays that way.

These little fur kids are so darn smart and cute, ya gota love em!

Sca sounds like a character too. Someone posted their sheltie was an eating machine, I think Sca and Lil' Lady fit right in there. Lucky, its just don't change the receipe, I'll know it, and he sure does.

I agree with Barb - I think its very dog specific. My last sheltie never had a stomach upset in his life. Deska gets stomach upsets but given what goes into his mouth it is not too surprising (wildlife poo being a favourite!) I've tried a lot on different kibble and there was only one I had problems with (Eagle Pack Chicken)

I mix with alot of dog owners and it seems its always the owners of long haired dogs that are more worried about stomach upsets. Lets face it, short hair dog owners rarely need to worry about wiping the runs from fluffy butts.

lol Fluffy butts... not good for runny butts!

I never USED to have a problem with Toffee neither, I thought I did a good thing feeding him the Vet brand of dog food, Science Diet... for about 8 months...
THEN after he developed this weird food intolerance.. usually involved a lot of vomiting up of undigested kibble. The more I read up on it, the more disgusted I was getting with crappy quality of dogfood on the markets! Even and particularly at the vets! This is what had actually initially brought me here during my Internet research. God bless this site and all you guys who have contributed to it long before I ever joined up :smile2: It helped SO much... and Toffee's 'sensitive' although always hungry stomach... he is so much better! No more throwing up kibble until only bile comes up, the poor guy!

I have embraced so many of the tips, and am converting to mostly raw food with the adding of Orijen to ensure I can feed him that in a pinch, plus is easier to carry around in a treat bag for clicker training than errr lets say... raw liver, LOL :dead:

Justice had a pretty castiron stomach until he ate a suet block that blew down in a wind storm while I was at my parents house 2 years ago. He got so sick he almost die. Bloody vomit and diarrhea, pancreatitis. Now he is sensitive to any new foods.

Not much upsets Ember. She was the dog I tried to start feeding raw to. She loved it. But I have a hard time preparing my own meals.:( So I dropped out.

Diva can not eat semi moist treats. I think it is the artifical preservatives. My friend likes those for her dogs and was giving them to her during puppy class. After 3 weeks of diarrhea the day following class I firgued it out. I really need to watch her at training class to make sure no one gives her any. Otherwise no other problems.

Smudge will eat anything. As long as he stays away from certain brands (Wellness) then he does ok. It's never consistent when he goes to the bathroom though. Sometimes it's normal, and other times it's runny and a hassle to clean up. :dead: He's always been like that.

Gizmo didn't seem to have any problems at all. He would also eat everything he saw. If I can fit it in my mouth - I can eat it! :biggrin2:

Maddie has a very sensitive stomach - she gets runny if she's got too much bone, too much fat, if she's stressed, etc... It's rather annoying, especially when I have to break out the baby wipes. Some canned pumpkin in her morning bowl seems to help a bit, though.
