Drooling

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but it had to go somewhere. Buddha my sheltie drools a lot! I have no idea if this is something common with the breed but somehow I find it somewhat unlikely. His drool sometimes hangs from his mouth until it wipes off somewhere; it's that kind of drool. Buddha also drinks a whole lot of water through out the day, and every time he leaves a whole bunch of foam from his drool floating around in the water. We have to change his water right after he drinks it because of all that saliva floating around and because he's always drinking water it has become such an annoying hassle. I know that some breeds are known to drool but is this common with shelties? And is it normal for them to be drinking so much water?

Strange, I have never known a sheltie that drools. That is one of the things I like about them. I don't do dog drool. Dogs with loose lips or bite issues will drool more. They will also drool when nervous, excited or nauseous

As far as the drinking alot of water. Well, that could be a sign of a problem if it is excessive.

Deska drools a lot. He is very, very food focused and drools excessively with anything to do with food. Not just when food is around, but anything that may result in a food reward or has gotten him food rewards in the past. So he drools on the dogwalk at agility, he drools when we have to cross the road, when we walk near bicycles and when people stand with hands in their pockets. Darn embarrassing at times, and a nuisance, you should see the puddles I get every night on my kitchen floor. And yes he does drink a lot more when he drools more.

Wow, very strange that your shelties are both so droolie! I've never heard of a sheltie with a drooling problem.

Toby doesn't drool, but he's a VERY messy drinking. After he drinks water we find water drips all over the house.

Same, never known shelties to drool at all. I don't take them as good signs when they happen to mine because mine only drooled when sick (in car, foaming at mouth before finally throwing up). Both of my shelties have both been messy water drinkers at first, not so much now. Hope any of that helps!

Ha ha ha, Melissa same here...when my Toby drinks, water goes everywhere, and for him being a puppy still, his little mouth makes a big noise when he drinks!

Zak drools when he gets very excited playing with other dogs. He also will drool with anticipation when I fix his mealsj- guess when he is extra hungry. My Katie would drool when I fixed her meals.

The only time I have seen Bailey drool is when I'm making enticing food for her. She doesn't drool for her kibble, but if she sees me adding canned food or eggs, she will occasionally drool.
