Ear Tipping

she is pretty! I really want to show belle, I think I am going to start with ukc shows first. we are having a little problem with her letting people examinr her. sometimes she is fine then other times she totally panics! I mean she runs to the end of the leash trying to escape. so we still have a ways to go with her.

I tip them because I prefer the look compared to prick ears. And if you have two dogs, who are similar in conformation (etc), most judges would pick the one that has the correct Sheltie expression-which calls for tipped ears.
 
I tip (or attempt to) for the same reason. Their beautiful Sheltie faces seem so much more enhanced with the tipping....it kinda frames their faces. It's kinda like the difference between a good haircut and a bad one! :smile2:

Pricked ears can overpower the delicate face. Hound ears can drag it down.

But that's my personal opinion. Bacca's ears are glued into the Berlin wall. When I finally take them down, they'll tip or not. I certainly won't love him any less! :smile2:
 
Well it's official! I'm never doing this ever again! I know I said that last time, but this last experience was enough!

I was brushing Fred a min ago and checked on his ears. I noticed one looked strange. Upon closer inspection, there was pus on one side of his left ear. I lifted the moleskin and noticed he had a huge open sore under it :(. I took off the moleskins and cleaned his ear up and put on some doggy "neosporin". I read instructions off of several websites and the method I used was on a couple of websites.
I'm going to the vet tomorrow for his vaccinations and will have her check and make sure his ear is ok. :(

As long as he can't lick it, regular neosporin is all right to use.

My Moose had her ears up when she was a puppy. Somehow she tore one, so now it has a slit in it, about 1/4" deep...it bled horribly...but healed good, at least!

Hi everyone I am new here and I have two shelties. My boy has one ear up and one down, he appears to look all boy, and WUZ UP? My girl I quess I am quilty of wanting her looking like a little diva. What I used on her ears was terrific. I was taking the breeders suggestion on something I couldn't find. A great suggestion from a fabric shop told me to use false eyelash adhesive glue, and it worked great.

I used bandaids to tip Romeo's ears coz I figured I would never get him to sit still to let me use glue and I would no doubt end up gluing his eyes (or mine!) shut.

I started off using one whole bandaid for each ear, then the bandaid down to thin strips to even out the tipping and prevent it from becoming completely droopy!

I got the Speed Sew at Walmart no problem. It's the remover that was a problem.

I did a google on Detachol and found several websites that sell it. I did try a medical supply store today when I was out and about (it's actually a bandage adhesive remover) but they didn't carry it. So I guess I'm shopping online.

btw - If any of our non-Canadian friends want the Speed Sew - let me know. I'd be happy to send you some! Just email me. Maybe I should set myself up as a Distributor to all Sheltie lovers! :winkgrin:

I happend to be at Walmart this week looking for something in the fabric section when there it was! SPEED SEW! Where was it when I actually needed it! I've been very happy with the Tear Mender from Canadian Tire and will continue to use it if we get another puppy.
 
The Detachol (adhesive remover) arrived today. Yey!

So, I'm going to take the glue out of Bacca's ears this weekend and see how they look.

I considered the bandaids, the last time, but part of the issue with Bacca was he was developing "hound ears" - so I needed a little extra support between the ears to keep them from going sideways.

Maybe the bandaids will be enough next round!

Hey....noone ever mentioned Duct Tape! I thought it was good for just about every household use! :lol:
