Ear Tipping

Ok! Ears unglued...Took about 30 minutes to take down the Berlin wall! Detachol, scissors, brush, more detachol, more scissors, more brush!

Stay tuned everyone! Lets see how they look tomorrow! Drum roll......!
 
The ears

I am new here, and had to find where to submit the post. I have a male sheltie with one ear up and one ear down, he is all boy, the look is WUZ UP?

I have a little girl, I couldn't find the glue the breeder uses. The lady at the fabric shop suggested false eyelash adhesive glue. It sure did work great with no trouble. I just wanted her to look like the little diva she is. I am pet owner not a breeder. My boy looks all boy, and my girl is into herself, and she looks just like she acts, the diva.
 
Ears

I was told by my breeder to use kaolin poultice for Isla's ears and also a bit of talcum powder. It is very successful and she has lovely ears (she is 17 weeks).

But of course in England when you show you would have to remove it which no doubt is the downside!!

You would have to remove it in the States as well. Anything artificial that they find WILL get you kicked out of the ring.

What is a kaolin poultie? I've never heard of it!

Well the glue finally worked itself out. I tried to reglue and made a royal mess of it and ended up having to cut alot of hair around the ears to remove the glue mess that I made.

And now there's not enough hair to glue so I'm just gonna have to leave it for now.

This is what my breeder suggested. It's time consuming to put on, but it can stay on for a long time if done correctly. You take moleskin (the stuff you use on your feet to cushion corns), cut into two pieces. One you stick to the tip of the ear, with medical grade skin glue, the other you stick on the inside of the ear, a bit below where you want it to bend. Then, you glue the moleskin together with fabric glue. but something that'll dry faster than Speed Sew (I can't recall what she told me to use).

Had I done Koji's better, his ears would be better. But his would stay down at least a week or two, and that's with Miko biting and slobbering on his ears when they play.
 
I use Tear Mender, and it dries almost immediately.

Also, if you put the Moleskin in the microwave for about 20 seconds (with the backing off), it heats up the glue and makes it tackier. By the time you get it to the dog, it's cooled off, and it stays on longer.
 
I'm not gluing Bacca's ears for now. While not a perfect Sheltie tip, they are mostly tipped, but tend to fly up from time to time, and when he's at rest, they seem a little hound-like.

I'm just kinda watching for a few more weeks. He's been glueless for about 3 weeks now.
 
how in the world do you remove eye lash glue. I got Lynn's ears undone with vegie oil, but there is still alot of sticky residue.
 
I posted a topic about this a month or two ago. The same thing happened to me and someone recommended baby oil and a fine tooth comb. I ended up having to shave his ear tip lol :(
