Ears up or down

Does anyone besides me let the ears stand? Sophie's {RIP} were taped down but Brock and Ty's {RIP} were left up. Now I have Kai and I probably need to decide...thoughts? Pros/cons...:confused2:
 
I'm bracing and gluing Ember's ears. I just like the way sheltie's ears look when they tip. Yes, it's for me, and maybe a little silly, since she is not a show dog. It's also something you have to keep at, but I think in the end, it'll be worth it.
 
If you are not showing, it's really a matter of personal preference.

I personally prefer the tipped ears as I feel that it adds significantly to that Sheltie expression that we love.

I glued, and reglued and reglued Bacca's ears for months....and still made a mess of it! Instead of perfect tipped ears, Bacca has "hound ears". It's not easy! :sadsmile:

Indy came to me at 10 months, too late to do anything about. He's are mostly pricked, but he's got smallish ears so they don't overpower his face.

Would I try again for the perfect tipped ears! You bet! My tuppence worth!

btw - lots of info on the forum as to how to achieve that look!
 
If I ever get another sheltie, I will definately do the gluing to insure the semi-pricked ears. I feel it gives their face a certain look...Aztec's just so happened to turn out pretty well. I am quite pleased with them, and I did nothing. It really depends on whether you personally care or not.

Wow, Aztec is the same age as Brock. I glued my Sophie's [RIP] ears and I must have had beginner's luck because they turned out perfectly. But Brock's are up and I just don't know about whether or not I want to do Kai's. I remember with Sophie I couldn't imagine them any other way, but you kinda get used to them up too and then think they look better that way...:confused2:
 
Yeah...there really is no pros or cons...it's just whether or not you wanna put up with the hustle and bustle for it or not. :lol: I personally LOVE the tipped look. I decided even before I started looking that when I got a Sheltie I was going to tip the ears. It's going on 8 months and I'm still working on them, but when they are out they look awesome. It really does complete the expression that they have.

So, it all boils down to what everyone else has already mentioned...personal preference. Usually by the 4-5 month mark you can have an idea of what your Sheltie will look like with prick ears, and you can decide from there. Caliber had satellite ears from the get-go...and HAD I decided not to glue them before I got him - I would have quickly changed my mind. He looks like such a little dork with his huge ears. As you can see...the tipped look suits him better :lol:

Good luck with whatever you choose - but remember...ears don't change the personality, they will love you just the same and you will love them right back no matter what!
 
I got Lexi at around 12 weeks and her ears went in between pricked and tipped. I made one lousy attempt to glue her ears down and it worked for a while, but eventually I just let them go. She's not a show dog so I decided I would like them either way. When I unglued them.. one stayed tipped and one pricked. She looked so darling and cute. The one stayed tipped for a while, but now both are pricked, and it's totally fine with me. Sometimes when she is super relaxed the one ear tips back over and it always makes me laugh.

Doesn't matter to me !

I love Kia with her ears just the way they are. She's not a show dog so why get her or me all upset over gluing ears.
 
Spencer has prick ears and I think he's super handsome anyway. The Sheltie I had before him also had prick ears and she was beautiful. Okay, so it's "in the eyes of the beholder", but we're not showing in conformation and as far as agility, etc. is concerned, no one is looking at ears!! I agree that personal preference is often the deciding factor and it was my choice to forego the gluing although his breeder was all for tipped ears.
