Has anyone had an episioplasty done on their Sheltie?
My almost 11 year old has been having nasty infections in her nether regions for a little over a year now - one time e-coli, another time another type of bacteria, etc. Treated with different types of antibiotics, creams, ointments, but to no avail, eventually the infection comes back leaving her black & crusty in the area around her vulva. My vet is now recommending surgery to repair an anatomical defect (episioplasty) around her vulva. Basically he said she has an extra fold of skin which is trapping urine and giving her these infections. He said she should be fine undergoing this type of surgery, I'm just a little nervous given her age. While she's under anesthesia she also needs some dentistry/cleaning done as well as having a pretty large fatty tumor removed from her side. Vet said she will be under for less than 2 hours. Just looking for some feedback and comments about your experience with this type of surgery. Thanks!
