I have a coomb that my vet sold me, the teeth are very close together, Laddie hates it, so, I usually just use my wire, slicker brush, I would like to find another rake, I use to use that on my first Sheltie and it did a wonderful job.

I don't really use my comb often. My favourite tools are rake, slicker and pin brush. I sometimes use the comebon mats, but I'm fortunanate that my boys don't matt often.

If I ever were to replace my comb, it would be with a greyhound comb....but that seems like what you already have.

Damned spell check ...I've not idea what a "combon mat" is that I typed. I didn't mean to type it. I think I meant the furminator, but I use it very carefully, if at all. It's been 3 years though since I've used it. I find that a really good spray and a really good slicker is the best ever.

I broke down a couple of years ago and bought the Chris Christensen #011 Buttercomb. I was told it was very gentle and wonderful for removing undercoat.

I've been very happy with how it works, it does a great job of working out loose undercoat and Toby, my super sensitive sheltie will tolerate it.

It heavy weight design actually helps you work through the undercoat so that you have to use less force moving the comb through the fur. I was skeptical when the sales person told me this, but it really does work.

There is no real handle for this comb so I wrapped the end you hold in vet wrap for cushioning. This is the only thing I don't like about the brush, they really should consider either creating a rubber cushion or redesigning the handle all together.

It was definitely worth spending the money.

I also have the 16mm small wood pin brush (because Toby doesn't tolerate grooming tools well), which I also really like. Its extremely gentle, Toby, who hates being groomed, lies there and closes his eyes in bliss.

The sales person convinced me that the 16mm one was enough, and while I really like it, I do wish I'd bought the one 20 or 27mm with longer pins. I do love the 'GroomGrip Handle,' it feels very nice on the hand.

I really don't use a comb that often. I find a good quality slicker and Teflon rake are my best tools for dealing with undercoat.

I don't even use the pin brush as much. Generally just for smoothing afterwards. I find my slicker does double duty 95% of the time.

I have this comb also. I hated paying so much for a comb, but I figured if it helped me do a better job grooming myself instead of paying a groomer, it was a good investment.

I really like it. If my line brushing skills were better, I probably would not need it, but it really does a nice job of taking out loose undercoat. It is heavy though, so my hand can get tired if I am using it for a long time.
