Fleur already had an accident, need advice

I'm not real sure on the details. My wife had Fleur upstairs while I was working in the basement. She told me they were sitting in a recliner and Fleur jumped off unexpectedly. She isn't clear on the details, just that she jumped off when she didn't expect it. All I heard was Fleur scream crying in pain, so I rushed up to see what happened. I could tell Fleur was keeping her left rear leg held up and wouldn't stop crying. Took her to the vet. Vet did x-rays and it was a fracture right in the middle of the left rear fibula.

Vet put a splint on it and wants us to come in weekly to check it for the next six weeks, Vet offered giving a recommendation to go see an Orthopedist, but says she doesn't think it is necessary. Floof is crying pretty bad any time she even remotely has the leg moved and I'm frustrated to the max.

She is very much still a puppy and isn't learning she needs to stay still and just keeps crying. This all happened like 4 hours ago, so she isn't eating/drinking/wanting to go potty. This is just worrying me non stop.

Does this sound like reasonable treatment to anyone that has had this before or should I see out a specialist?

Sounds reasonable did they give her anything for pain? Might not due to her age. But immobilize and rest is normal on a fracture.

they gave her small dose gabapentin every 8 hours for 2 days and 12 hours after that til she doesn’t show as much pain. I’m so hurt broken for her, she should be getting to know her world and she barely can do anything.
 
You’d be surprised how common this injury is in puppies. I know several people whose puppies have broken legs in simple freak accidents. Don’t beat yourself up, as long as you follow your vet’s instructions carefully she will heal just fine.

The challenge is keeping her quiet, which is so important! The gabapentin will help keep her a bit calmer initially but you might ask your vet if there’s anything you can give her longer term while she heals. She should have an ex pen where she can move around a bit more than in a crate, and there are games you can play to engage her inside while she heals. If an orthopedic consult will give you peace of mind, do it. But if you trust your vet, just follow his instructions.

I’m so sorry this happened to Fleur but she will heal and be back to being a puppy with your care. Keep us posted on how she’s doing!
 
Ugh, I'm so sorry. Puppies are fragile as you found out. My friend's pup got stuck under her couch and panicked and broke his own leg. She did have a surgeon plate it but it was the bigger bone not the fibula. This is tough, she's just a baby and still getting used to you and her surroundings. As Ann said you must figure out a way to keep her quiet. If the bone ends are aligned and touching they will heal that way. She may need to be held initially. I would reach out to your vet in the morning if she hasn't settled down with the pain meds. They may need to give her something additional or different.

Very sorry you are all going through this right after you got her.
 
Sounds like you're doing the right things.The Vet should have aligned the bones before splinting the leg. Sometimes that can add to the initial pain a little.The good thing is puppies heal quickly. Try to keep him quiet and follow your Vets instructions.
I am sorry this happened, but it should heal just fine as long as the splint stays in place.I am sure your Vet would have sent you to Specialist if they felt it would be in a best interest of the puppy. But if you would feel better by seeing a Specialist it won't do any harm.

Fracture so likely she did not need it 'set' does not help on hurting. Also the second day of a crash is always worse. The initial pain can be taken. But then swelling sets in and makes it worse.
