For those who want to learn agility - would it help...

I found this video a few months ago because I was thinking that I wanted to teach Phebe to jump into my arms. She's not much of a lap dog, so I gave up got noe, but maybe it would work for you and MMM.

Teaching Handsome to jump into my arms

Oh great video. I have him jumping onto the couch beside me, and now I will swap over to the chair. He doesn't like cuddle or be in my lap either, but..........but well tough! I want him to learn this.:rolleyes2:

Oh that would be too cute. That would be a great trick to teach.

When I was making MMM look up, look down, look left, look right this morning checking out his ookie eye, I was thinking wouldn't that be a great trick to teach them yes and no...............shrugging their shoulders though might be too much to ask of them, eh?

Earnhardt will shake his head to & from side to side.I swear he looks like Stevie Wonder~

Like right now and I know this is not an agility movement per se, but I swear all of you teach it. I want to teach MMM how to jump up in my arms while I am standing upright. How do I teach that? That is just the example.

I taught Ember to jump up into my arms by sitting down on the edge of a chair , patting my legs and telling her Hup. Then when she was jumping in my lap I would stand up slightly with my legs bent and just catch her. Repeat steps by inching up until you are standing.

However, Ember no longer will jump in my arms with trust. Why? Because after one run in obedience, utility I think, I put my arms in the air slightly "yeah all done" and Ember thought I wanted her to jump into my arms. So she jumped sideways and hit my body slightly above my waist with her body. You can not at any time pick up or hold your dog in the air in the obedience ring so I didn't put my arms out to catch her(I almost did).:o Ember thinking I was going to catch her did not brace herself for landing, hit my body and slide down it, fell sideways onto the mat with a thud.:eek2: She was not hurt but the look she gave me could had burned a hole in steel. She will jump up still but she makes darn sure I'm ready and that I'm going to catch her.

I have always wondered if that was something taught or not. I see it a lot at the end of runs with BC's and Shelties. Not so much Aussies.

I know there's a lot of different ways to do agility, but one thing I know, always work on flatwork. So maybe give them some good flatwork techniques to work on too. :)

I want good flatwork demos...

Part of the reason I started my blog was to monitor progress and keep goals, but the other part was for others to see how you can train agility or flyball for fun. I do quite a bit in my backyard.

instantagility.com is a great resource for building your own equipment. Just make sure you get a good PVC cutter that can't slip and nearly cut of the tip of your left middle finger (you being a lefty...). Oh, right, that was me.

I want to teach Juliet this too! Coz after every sheltie agility video I see the dog jumps into the handler's arms all happy. I've been sitting on the floor getting her to launch herself into my lap. Can't do it with Romeo. I'm sure he'll give me the "no mum not in public!" look. He's just not that kind of boy.
