For those with a sable merle....

Kel looks like a tricolor but has blue merling...so to those that at least know what a tricolor looks like, his markings are 'not true tricolor' and I get asked what he's mixed with.

I guess the point it is is that most people innocently assume that shelties only come in sable or blue merle and anything else is exotic.
 
We are on our second blue merle after a series of sable/whites...they always manage to attract extra attention from folks who either don't know what kind of dog it is, or do know, but haven't ever seen the blue merle variation...but they all seem drawn to walk up and look him over carefully for all his beauty and since he is such a sociable little guy they are rewarded with licks and wiggles...gotta love a Sheltie.
