Getting to Know Aria-throwing up food

Is this the only dog you have? Now I don't feed raw here consistant.But as Ann mentioned the name SD,for alot of members is not a favorable food,unless medically nessassary.

I believe Ashely gave a nice listing of foods.And the list is endless and can make you head swim.
My bottom line on food is this...you do what you can do,what is right for your situation,and what is good for the dog.

Above all do not let us decide for you.You are the one that needs to do what is right for your pup.Like I said food threads here can get heated,one sided...as everyone has opinions.

With 4 dogs here,we have been forced to look at other food.And I am satisfied on my choice.

The vomiting,could be anything,and I guess a better description,and possibly is there a pattern you are noticing.
Is it all the time,only mornings,only at bedtime,or is it in the wee hours of the morning.

Some puppy suffer from empty stomach syndrome.
Have you ever been so hungry,that you felt sick,and near throwing up? Well some dogs are like this.

Small little tid bits,late at night,often help in neutralizing stomach acids. And this brings you to reflux.Dogs can have reflux.

So alot of factors.I think if you notice a pattern,and or it could possibly be something in the SD that is not settleing right. It could be the fillers,any numbers of things.

I have been researching all day...I guess it is good I have tomorrow off too!! She is an adult, I think about two. She plays from morning till night. Any suggestions on how to tell her age?

Ashley did a great job! Aria will be coming off SD asap so she can have a beautiful coat like all the other pretty furbabies. Her coat is getting thick, for winter I think. It seemed shinier before the food. It now makes sense. I am going to check the probiotics site too. Thank you so much for responding, Aria and I appreciate your advice. Love up your furbabies for us in PA!
 
I am another big believer in reading dog food ingredients.. seems the one most advertised are the worst for them.. it really is interesting once you start looking at the different brands.

I feed Wellness Super 5 Mix Chicken.. started my cat on the Wellness cat food when she was a rescue, and carried it on to the Canine when we got Belle.. she does very well on it and it has only good ingredients, no wheat, no corn, no soy..

I did check this one today as well. The ingredients seem very good and the balance seems to fit. Aria will never be a show"girl" like some of the beautiful furbabies here, but we only want the best for her as she has probably tolerated so much of life's worst already. Belle is truly that, beautiful! You have sheltie angels too. Does that mean fosters or ones who have passed on? All of you are such welcoming sheltie mommies. Thank you very much!
 
Have you noticed if Aria's vomiting is around times where she has been nervous? This could also be a possibility among the many others that have been listed. Also is she eating too fast at those times. She obviously was deprived of food by her weight so maybe she has eaten to quickly and it is too much for her belly to handle sometimes. i won't confuse you and suggest anymore foods since many good suggestions have been made here. I do know my BF's vet recommends Wellness to him since his dog has food allergies she has been on whitefish and sweet potatoe and does very well. I recently have picked up some samples for my Gypsy of the limited ingredient food they just came out with as she has many health issues. Good luck with sweet Aria I am so glad you found each other and have bonded so well.

my Sheltie angels are ones who have passed on.. Lisa, Lance and Tiffany were purchased in the late 70s within a few months of each other. Lisa, was my first Sheltie, a dark sable. she was not the most beautiful Sheltie, but was a sweetheart. She won a high in trial for her CD and finished in 3 trials, winning 2 of the 3. Then I fell in love with Blue Merles and had to have one, so I bought Lance when he was a year old. His breeder was not a kind person, and Lance did not like men much. He was beautiful, but way oversize at 18".. He also earned his CD, winning 3 trials. Tiffany was another dark sable with a huge coat. She was show quality except one of her ears went up and would not come down.. then there was a long period without Shelties and much upheaval in my life. In 1992 I purchased Candy from the same breeder as Belle. She looked much like Belle except she was very red sable. All passed on after living good lives.

Jamie is our special angel, a shih tzu/malti poo grumpy little boy.. who loved camping. He started having epileptic grand mal seizures last October 2008 and passed away this past July. Meds did not help him.. we miss him still.
 
my advice- don't go overly crazy trying to decide which kibble is the best. Some quality kibble will be just that: what is better "Chanel or Nina Ricci" look what is available in your neck of woods. If possibly and your pup tolerates it try several different varieties and switch between them to make sure your pup gets all kind of different protein sources or at least add some baby food/ make sure no onions there/, occasional wet canned food, occasional canned fish like mackerel or salmon, yogurt, honey, cooked egg, etc to their diet.

I think you might be right. She was nervous the first two times and this last time we were moving Christmas decorations around and I was making the kids clean their rooms. I was huffing about the house. She wasn't sure what to be doing. I am still going to change her food and treats. I feel horrible about what I have been feeding her. I think I can find TOTW locally, so I might start there and see if it works for her. I think they have a fish and sweet potatoe too. Thank you for sharing!

Your angels have warmed my heart. I am learning how passionate sheltie parents are, with such determination that they live the best life possible. Growing up we had an Old English Sheepdog who was an epileptic with grand mal seizures. He died of a continuous grand mal seizure. He was my mother's dog. She was a mess. After that, we had mutts. We didn't have the knowledge about how they should be feed so they ate what we ate most times. Now I know so much more.

Aria was meant to be with us. We too have gone through upheaval over the past eight years, but we are settled and have peace...the perfect time for her to come to us. Thank you so much for sharing your story with me!
 
Don't feel bad about what you have been feeding her. We are all learning what is best for our dogs.

I fed Emma Eukanuba but have switched both Emma and Liam to TOTW. They love it. I usually get the wild bison or roasted fowl but was in the other pet store in town and found the salmon one, which they will start tomorrow. Emma chews her food like a lady. Liam inhales it. Both the bison and salmon formulas have sweet potato in it. Emma has vomited undigested kibble on occasion, but not consistently enough that I would be concerned, maybe five times over the year I have had her.

If there is upheaval in the house or in your lives, Shelties will sense it and react. I know firsthand about this.
