Grooming table opinions

I definatly recommend a grooming table. I leave mine set up all the time downstairs and in the summer I groom outside and between the shows so I leave it on my porch set up. I have also when im really feeling lazy I set it up in my living room and pull it up the couch and sit on the couch and groom but thats the height of my laziness at 5 feet its actually a good height for me and when im doing feet I even have to bend down

This coming from the same person who shares the cold tile floors with the pups in hot weather!

But yeah, I just sprawl too!

What I really want is a separate room with wash tub with spray nozzle, a grooming table that I can sit down at (on a rolling chair so I can scoot around and not stand), shelving so that all the supplies are at arm's length (and not stuffed into a basket). But I don't have a room in my house to do that.

I thought about asking Ryan to give up his bathroom so I could remodel it for the boys but I have a feeling that might not go over well!

My wonderful breeder who reads this Forum asked me share the following information with everyone on grooming tables. And trust me, she knows whereof she speaks!!

"As a breeder/show person for 20 years, I can give you some thoughts on your grooming table. I don't recommend the rolling table with casters that doubles as a dolly. It is extremely heavy, the folded legs are too close to the ground when you are trying to roll it, and they get caught often. Also, the vibration of rolling across a parking lot, they fall down, and end up dragging on the pavement. Very noisy, and annoying. Bungee cords won't catch the legs (too fat), so it is hard to tie down your gear. In theory it is a great idea, in practice, horrible. It can't roll across a snowy parking lot. You never see seasoned show people use them. The lightweight dollys are great. Wait and buy it at a show. You won't pay the shipping. Yes, you will have to carry everything in the building, but only once! At the end of the weekend, you'll have your shiny new dolly! Always try to buy supplies and equipment at the shows. I keep a post-it note in my tack box, and keep a running list, so the next time, I can pick up what I ran out off a couple of weeks ago. As far as being vertically challanged, I am only 4' 10" tall. My husband cut the legs of my tables by an inch. It really helps when I am trimming heads. It's amusing when people throw their dogs on my tables at a show, and realize their dogs are now shorter! I hope this helps!"

You guys are going to laugh at me! I can't handle sitting on the floor anymore, it kills my back - I'm not that old either! I have resorted to using the patio table in the basement where it is currently being stored until this freaking snow finally melts away. I had thought about buying a grooming table but why? The patio table works great and I just throw an old blanket over it to keep them from sliding around.

Thank you for your suggestions and observations, they are so valuable! It is great to hear from someone who had or observed experience with the table on casters. I was wondering as I had only seen one person with one ever, at an event, and yet it seemed like such a handy invention. I will skip on it, thank you!

LOL I can relate on the vertically challenged. Which height do you find is the most comfortable? Up until this point, I have used a folding table I purchased, similiar to the one Jessica is using, but going to go ahead and purchase the real deal now.

Any certain actual dolly that everyone recommends?

I was sprawling on the floor too, but it was so hard on my back. Lately I bought a table cloth specifically for Sadie and started grooming her at the dining room table. When I'm done I just shake it out side

That is the dolly that I use..I believe you can lock the wheels to go only straight too..but I could be wrong on that....cant remember...

I still use my island in my kitchen for puppies...they think being on the counter in the kitchen is the coolest as they can see any goodies that may be on the other counters and report back to the others!!

LOL! Of course! Gotta get those wheels a turning on how to snag the next yummy treat.

I actually have a rolling microwave cart that I use at home, until I can get a true grooming table. My grandmother had it and didn't need it, so offered it to me. I really like it. Now, if I can just talk my husband into stop using it for storage and let me store only grooming supplies in the cabinet and drawer it has, plus the little shelf.
