Grooming the ruff~

First start with the Canine Good Citizen test- most therapy organizations base their tests on this.

Then decide what you want to do- reading with kids, hospital/nursing home visits etc.

Then call the places close to you that you would like to go to and find out which certification they require.

Then you can research that particular organization and find out when/how you can take their test.

Actually alreay made some call tonite,and will be working on other items in the listi that need working on with him.I found 2 ladies in Florance,one of which name is mentioned on AKC site,for an evaluator & training instructor.So I did leave a message on her voice mail.Her husband gave me her cell number,tol me she was traveling home from a show in NC.
So I am anxious to chat with her.

I think it was totally worth it! Getting used to wielding scissors is always a bit nerve-wracking. When Toby was 6 months old, I swear, his face hairs were at least 4-5 inches long and he had no mane to speak of... it looked ridiculous :) And don't even get me started on when I tried to thin out his old man pants with a pair of scissors (thinning shears are hard to come by here)! Thankfully he's no worse off for the wear.. if anything, he's a lot more patient with being groomed because of it!

Well Trapp is none worse for the trim.If one had seen him in person,I'm sure they would have opted for the trim also. It was a bit nerve racking,but he is a peach about getting groomed,even letting me take pictures.

It will grow back,and hopes it does with fullness,and more even.
 
Wears collar

My dog acts as if I've taken a treat away from him or something if I take his collar off. He'll just sit and watch his collar until I finally put it back on him and then he'll starts being his usual adorable self.

Well thank you,I appreciate it. I really had not givin it much thought as of lately,as I know it will grow back.

But he is so much better looking now that all the broken ends are gone.It is short,much shorter in comparison to Jasper's,but its hair,and it will grow.And it will be much better in time.

The trim really has also helped another issue we had,and that was Trapp would literally take longer pieces and would chew on his ruff.It was really damaged,between him chewing and his early days from wearing a collar with tags. The tags will do a number on thier ruffs.
 
As a new sheltie Mom I don't know the fine points of grooming but Trapp does look very handsome with the new haircut. He must think it it is pretty good since he's not hiding, but rather going out and being a sweetheart to make a special day for a stranger! I recently had a friend show me that she keeps all but an id tag attached to her dogs leash rather than the collar. I loved the idea because it was way less jingling. We use the Mes Amis limited slip collar and it is so soft and smooth that it doesn't damage the hair on the ruff.

Do you have a link to where the slip collar is available? I now attach all thier tags to the harness,which gives them the needed ID. The harness' we use are awesome. They are a figure 8,and are leather.They look great,and you can't even tell they have them on. When Trapp goes to visit in nursing homes,and is "working" I transfer his tags to his therepy vest,as he needs ID there to.

Now just for short trips to town,even though they wear harness all day,off at night,I have a slip lead I will use,especially if I know its a short trip to town,and they are staying with me in truck,while Brian runs into walmart or getting gas. It's made a braided fleece.
