Hi everyone! I have a little girl Sheltie named Maya. She is now 22 weeks old and I notice that she has a tendency to "hop" with her back legs sometimes when she is outside running along. I may be over-reacting, but I am concerned that she may have a hip problem. Since this in my first Sheltie, I am not familiar with how they run. She doesn't seem to have any pain but... Please let me know if this is something I should be concerned with. Thanks!
It's pretty difficult to give you info on something only you can actually see. Chances are since she appears to not be uncomfortable with it, it may be nothing. But better to ask and find it's nothing than to not question.
Our mini Aussie Apollo was a hopper when we brought him home @8wks, but he outgrew it a lot faster, by about 16 weeks.
Fortunately when we took him to a canine orthopedist that wasn't the case, and a course of anti-inflamatant completely cured him.
I now give him a glucosamine/condritin supplement daily. But you'll feel better (and so will he) if you know it's nothing. Good luck, and let us know what happens!
