I am interested in making food for my Indigo. I know nothing about this. Can anyone make recommendations of how to go about this, or refer me to a website? Thanks!
are you talking like a raw food diet. or like a regular diet of prepared human foods? Making your own requires adding supplements and such and can get costly.
I cook dinners for mine (they get kibble in the morning).
I am lucky there is a product in Aust called "Vet's All Natural"(VAN) that is added to meat and contains all the nutrients they need (you may have something similar over there - it comes dried and I soak it the night before).
If I dont use the VAN they get mince (chicken, kangaroo, beef and sometimes lamb) with
frozen vegies or pumpkin with some yoghurt mixed in
if they haven't had a bone that day I mix a teaspoon of calcium bicarbonate
sometimes I sprinkle some crushed dry liver treats
sometimes they also get rice with egg yolk mixed in (when the rice is hot I mix the yolk and it 'cooks' the yolk, the white makes them a bit farty) - they love the 'egg rice'
Their favourite is the doggy version of bubble 'n squeak. Cooked rolled oats with an egg and cooked shredded or mashed vegies - like carrot, zucchini, sweet potato - formed into balls/patties and then lightly fried. Then I mix it with meat pieces.
kangaroo
Caro that is so funny to read for us North Americans over here
I guess it's normal for us to see Caribou up north or something, but Kangaroo is still funny when I read that
I love we are so international here
I cook on occasion for Maggie and take a chicken and boil it either whole or legs and thighs. Then add 2 to 3 carrots, handful of green beans, peas, a couple squash and zucchini. I only let the veggies cook till just tender then I chop it up with a hand chopper ( pampered Chef) and put it in ice cube trays and freeze them and take out a cube or two and add to her food.
I also make a batch for a friends dog who really won't eat his food unless they add something to it and he loves it.
I have a recipe that I got that is apparently "sheltie specific". This is cooked food made up of mostly lamb and potatoes. I used to make large batches and freeze them in individual containers and reheat when it's mealtime.
If you'd like to use this, drop me your email address and I'll send it to you!
