How can I make my boy fluffier?

and wait!? I had my Collie spayed, and she has no shaved leg. What's up with that?

This is kind of off topic, but I wondered that, too.

Why did they shave Smudge's leg for a neuter and they didn't shave Fluffy's leg for a spay? :confused2:

I noticed that when I got home from work that day. I was like..the triggerfish, man! I paid to have Fluffy on fluids during surgery. If they didn't shave the leg where did the IV go?!

I think his face is so adorable I didn't notice his coat. He's precious!

Awh thanks!

I've had once or twice where the vet was able to find the vein without shaving the leg but most of the time they shave the leg. Actually once when Smokey went in for a cleaning they shaved one leg and couldn't find a good vein so they shaved the other leg and couldn't find a vein! Imagine coming to pick up your dog and seeing both legs shaved AND a big hole shaved in his mane so they could get a vein in his neck! Grr...

So maybe they were just good at finding a vein?

Like I said to Rachael, I think sometimes they just get lucky and find a vein without having to shave.

I like Plush Puppy's Fluffy Puppy for adding texture. And of course the sitting outside in the freezing cold method for adding body! Tully is much fluffier than Mr D this year and I think its because she spends the winter evenings on the back porch whereas Mr D stayed inside this winter. Her coat also harshed up a bit more this winter - its usually very soft and flowing.

its all about how good the vet techs are and how lazy they are not..usually. It takes more skill and time for them to find a vein on an unshaven leg, so thats why they usually shave it. My vet I go to does alot with conformation dogs, so his staff knows that a good chuck of his clients show their dogs, if they shave them they cant be shown and the owners will COMPLAIN! So they are all good at finding veins without shaving. The only time they will shave is when its medically necessary and they know the dog wont be shown, ie a spay/neuter, or a c-section. Otherwise its no shave! :)

Thanks for the help! Unfortunately if I leave Trax outside he goes on a mission to either dig a hole to China, via the sandbox or the mission to find all the poops and eat them, so he tends to stay inside ;)

I am well known for my dislike of shaving for any reason . I do it when I need to but I'm not happy about it.

The doctor who's clinic I went to when Ember had her surgery(called in the surgeon), happily pointed out that there were no shaved legs for IVs and just enough hair shaved on her injuried leg to make a clean surgery site. This without me telling them. I worked with her for 4 yrs and I guess she heard my dislike a time or two.

Yes it comes down to the skill if the vechs or vets most of the time but I know alot of clinics that do it as a matter of routine.

Well the next time they go under I'm going to talk to my vet first(whom I LOVE) and I bet she'll do me a favor and try not to shave him. It takes so long and Trax chews at it until he has scabs :(

Trax realllly is gorgeous, you know that!? What a sweet, soft face!
Toffee is 2 and I keep hoping he gets more fluff.. but I am afraid it's as good as it is going to get, lol
