How to keep dogs away from heater???

Help!

My new apt has baseboard heaters. (click here to see a photo)

The problem is that Miko sleeps in my room and right now, as you can see in the photo, sleeps near it, or against it. The white round things in front of it is their bolster beds (taken apart since I washed it). So the bolsters are blocking Miko from hitting the heater (he was doing his circling thing and constantly hitting it).

I have an x-pen, but I was concerned that if I use it to block the heaters, it'll just warm up and get hot as it's metal.

They've never been near one as I usually have forced air for heat, or don't use it at all. I'm concerned Koji will go check it out and burn his nose. Or that Miko will lie against it and burn himself.

How can I block it? If I put an x-pen in front of it, will it get hot since it's metal? I'd try it, but it's um, almost 90 degrees out, no thanks. LOL. And I obviously have to remove the bolsters (as I'm sure Koji would like his bed back).

Any ideas? Hopefully it won't get so cold that I need it for another few months, but I'd like to have some ideas before then.

I've seen these things in catalogs- they go over those floor vents to direct the hear under furniture. might help keep the dogs from getting directly on them......

I would imagine they have something for baby proofing. If it's dangerous for a dog to get near or touch, wouldn't it also be dangerous for a baby? Let me see what I can find.. hmmm.

Ok, I have to say, I want your sheep. Have you thought about fireplace foam bumpers? They might do the trick. I looked online and it looks like most for child proof just change it to be a holy type cover versus the open cover. I don't know if that would do the trick for you or not though.

Good point, I didn't think about that. I'll go do some research.
