I agree totally!
But thinking out loud here...rather than prohibit them entirely as they have done in Ontario, perhaps there is a way to specially license them? i.e. to owners committed to proper training etc. I know that's not full proof, and you'll still get pit-mixes showing up on Kiijjii. But maybe its a start. Better than eradicating an entire breed altogether?
gosh, I agree it's a million dollar question isn't it?
Trust me I am not a fan of pitties for myself or in a multi dog or inexperienced household, just my personal opinion.
However, once you open that whole breed ban door, it becomes ridiculous, Families losing beloved pets who were nothing but wonderful family dogs, or like Tara mentions the dogs that are great rescues and have so much potential yet can't even go out without a muzzle, and that then is just perpetuating publics view about these animals. I have met some amazing pitties that almost made me change my mind about contemplating rescuing one but I am always hoping they find good homes, which thankfully many succesfully do and they behave like champions!! Even while little dogs bully them and the Pit's continue to behave more than approbriate!!

Unfortunately the other half of the problem are BAD owners who after breed ban are still running loose (just sometimes illegally) maybe now also with dogo argentino's or mastiff breeds etc or whatever...
I am afraid a breed ban also opens the door to horrible breeding practices. Meanwhile people like 2gooddogs and her neighbours and dog lovers are left to clean up the messes...
Glad to hear they may find a better suited home for that dog...

Thanks for sharing!!
You probably saved this big lug's life, going outside of your comfort zone and just being there, you don't have to really even like that dog!
