I need a sanity check here....!

Thanks for the advice. I will chill for now, but I will be watching this crazy lady!

I can only assume that she's been plauged by other dogs running through her veggies so I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt for now.

But I do want to be able to walk my dogs off leash as long as they behave. So I want these people to get used to me walking by. So I guess I'll keep on trucking.....

Barb, as long as you are within your rights to walk them there, I would walk them there.

That whole situation would've gotten my back up, and I'm afraid I wouldn't have handled it that well. (I would have snatched the hose out of her hands and turned it on HER. How d'ya like THEM apples, lady?) But I tend to be heavily over-protective of my dogs - they are my child-substitutes, and I should probably be in therapy for the rest of my life. LOL

I do hope she has slug and pest problems in her garden, as well as deer, rabbits, and chipmunks. (Need to know where to buy slugs?:biggrin2:)

My concern would be that she would turn the hose on the wrong dog and owner and find herself in a real mess, with a dog that might just attack her (or the owner would). I would have gone back without the dogs and talked to her, explaining to her that you are within your rights to walk the dogs there, you clean up after them, and that she had placed both herself and another dog and its owner in a very difficult situation. Turning a hose on a dog can be a threatening move to dogs.

Don't say anything, just start dropping your dog's 'fertilizer' on her garden every time you walk by.

Just kidding about the fertilizer. I've found that its not worth it talking to people like that, its likely that she won't listen to anything you say. Just avoid her in the future and if she goes after you and your dogs when they're on leash I'd look into reporting her.

I was walking Sadie and Ginny one day when Sadie started peeing on a boulevard (the strip of grass between the sidewalk and the road that the city owns). This lady walking on the opposite side of the road and down the street started screaming at me about picking up after my dogs, etc. etc. The house on the other side of the sidewalk from where I was standing was apparently hers and she felt that she owned the boulevard where Sadie peed as well. It didn't matter that it was urine and not her property, she was furious and screamed some really nasty things at me. An old man walking by actually told her she was 'nuts' and to mind her own business.

I actually emailed my city councillar about about this to get a sense of my rights. I haven't heard back from him yet.

I expect that she has the law on her side. I don't think this is a leash-free dog park, but by pure practice, many of us use it as such. As long as people control their dogs, noone complains.

That being said, I've had my own issues with dog walkers that let their dogs cruise up to my fence and taunt Indy and Bacca. That is annoying.

So, I can see both sides here. But I tried to assure her that I'm responsible for my dogs and will not allow them to damage her garden plot. She was not prepared to listen. So she sprayed all of us, me included.

I hope we can get middle ground here.

As a result, the boys are not getting a walk tonight. Sorry, pups!
