Okay calling all Sheltie people here, :winkgrin:, what brand of food do you all feed your furbabies?

Right now I feed Castor and Pollux with a little canned Purina Pro Plan mixed in..Too many options out there to decide on my own..

I feed Solid Gold the lamb and rice and Flint river mixed with it. Flint River you can not buy in the store. It has to be ordered on line.

A lot of people on this forum feed TOTW, but I don't think they make puppy food.

Some popular puppy foods are wellness (some puppies get loose stool), innova, orijen (high protein).

I really liked innova, but my puppy is allergic to chicken.

I feed California Natural Lamb & Rice because my puppy has a sensitive stomach. Decent food. It has a 4 star rating on dog food analysis.
 
I went to the dog food analysis site that I got a link from here for:

I searched on puppy and only looked for high ratings, I then started reading reviews and eliminated a couple due to comments that implied they 'might' not be the greatest for a small breed puppy. At that point I had a list of about 3 brands and started searching to see what I could get locally (before price shopping). Through the company websites I found that a feed store in town (CT Garvins) sold one of the brands. When I went in I found they had a wide variety of great brands. So I made a list of what they had and revisited the review site. After all that I choose Innova Dry Puppy Food it had a rating of 5 stars, reasonable price and was confident CT Garvins would be around a while so that I would have access. Then the final test was to give it to Sca who approved and scarfed it down (he is not picky) the first afternoon his stools were still decent and the only side effect was a couple of wicked puppy farts.

So while I don't necessarily say this is the brand I hope seeing my basic process is helpful to you (and the food has seemed to be good for him)
 
Kia gets Merrick's Turducken. When she was a pup she got their puppy formula. But she also gets Home made food every AM I will change between Beef Liver and Brown rice with a Multivitamin in it. Then the next day she will get chicken with Brown rice. Then she gets the Merricks for at night. about 1/2 cup.:winkgrin:
 
I feed a Canadian made kibble called Now! It is a no-grain high protein formula. Before settling on this I went through quiet a few kibbles. She liked the taste of most of them but it was the size of the kibble that was an issue. I did have her on Orijean but that kibble was too big. She takes forever to eat. Since Brighid will not eat dry kibble, I make a home made wet food and put about a tablespoon in with the kibble. I did use some canned wet food but that became an issue because we used so little of it that it lasted too long and she didn't like the wet food if it was more than 3 days old. So the home made allows me to freeze it in small batches so that it is fresh and I know what ingredients are in there. It is made with home made turkey/chicken broth and some vegetables and usually chicken or beef liver and then a little rice to thicken it. I made the broth from leftover turkey or chicken and if I don't have that, I just buy frozen turkey necks or drumsticks which are pretty cheap.
 
I feed Orijen (puppy for Beckon and adult for the girls). I supplement with Vibrant Pets Joint and Muscle for Bits and Annie; and Canine Athlete or Show Dog for Layla and Beckon.
