I think Eevee is blind after spay...

The response of this breeder is incomprehensible to me. I, as a breeder, am responsible to my puppy caretakers and to the puppy itself. I am so angry that they won't help you out. Personally I would be talking to a lawyer and/ or the AKC at this point. I don't know what the AKC is like but here in Canada a formal complaint can be made and the possibility of suspension of privledges of the CKC can be inflicted upon a breeder. That means no registering or showing of their dogs.
Please know that we are not all like this. In fact, I refuse to label anyone a breeder if they do not live up to their responsibilities. They are, in my opinion, little better that a puppymill.
You and Eevee are in my thoughts and prayers.
For everyone else, please, please, please make sure you have a comprehensive and well laid out health guarantee before you purchase a puppy. Things go wrong and even the best breeders can have it happen but you need to make sure you are protected.

Yeah, me too. When Sadie had her spinal stroke 1 1/2 years ago Sadie's breeder offered to give us our money back for her treatments, even though it wasn't a generic problem or anything that could have been predicted. We politely declined but were touched by her offer.
 
I'm praying you get some answers from the specialist and that Eevee's situation isn't as bad as you think. I'm glad you're going to enjoy her in the meantime. I'm so sorry you are going through this. Sending you hugs.
 
I hope the specialist can help you sort things out. I am with Tagg I still don't understand the whole health guarantee. Health gauarantee is void if given Lepto. But what was her written guarantee on health?

Enjoy your little one. It sounds like hubby may be calming down if you all took a nice ride in the convertable. Please know you are all in my prayers.
 
I've just reread this entire thread over. It seems like its over-lapping issues but its so hard to tell....so much happening at the same time, its hard to determine cause and effect.

This is Bacca all over again. A myriad of problems that didn't really seem to connect. And he was just over 1 year old. It started with a swollen mouth. First the diagnosis was a tooth abcess, then it was cancer, then Bacca refusing to eat, etc. etc. etc. I checked with the breeder....no issues with the other siblings.

After tons of bloodwork, it came back to first: hypothyroid and second: liver disease.

The first was easy. Meds.

The liver was harder. He had been on a high protein, grain free diet. The vet was talking liver shunt and more invasive (i.e. expensive! procedures). After discussion, I took him off high protein to a more moderate 24% but still grain free. His counts are still a little high, but manageable. He also gets milk thistle supplements as well. Since then, and its now been a couple of years, he has NO symptoms to speak of, except the higher counts. Will it surface again someday, perhaps. But I'll cross that bridge then.

I guess I'm saying: that unless Eevee is in critical condition, consider not putting her through extensive testing for liver shunt quite yet.

I'm not speaking for all vets, but there are some that are a little more aggressive in treatment that might be necessary. And finally, go with your heart! If it feels right, then do it.

I agree with Barb on this one. I think some vets are really quick to medicate and operate. I know you must be beside yourself, but going to a specialist and getting another opinion is good idea.

As far as your breeder goes, that's just crappy! So she'll take the dog back and then put it to sleep? I don't understand that.

I'm hopeful that you'll have a similar experience as Barb and things will work out for your sweet little girl!
 
I knew a "breeder" that was like that. He told me that he tells anyone that has a complaint about health to bring the dog back and he would shoot it and give them a replacement. He then laughed and said no one ever took him up on it. Needless to say we were NOT friends!
