I thought I had a sheltie but could she be a collie?

The sheltie I had in America was so much larger than the ones here. In fact, a lot of folks that saw us walking, would stop me and ask if he was a young collie. Actually, I prefer them larger. They seem so darn delicate here.

Our Murphy and our Sheltie history

I grew up with collies as a kid (4 of them) but as an adult, I was given a Sheltie. One of the best gifts ever, he lived in 3 decades (14 years) and was your typical, tri Sheltie.

We loved him so much, our daughter wanted her own so along came Pepper who only lived until 10. She was a sweetheart, the fastest runner ever and just smart.

When our first one passed away, we searched and finally found a breeder 4 hours north of us. When we arrived, we fell in love with our Murphy. He was almost 8 weeks and ready to go. What a good boy. He held it the whole way home (4 long hours!) We knew then we had a keeper.

Well, little Murphy grew to be 55 pounds and most likely was about 19 inches. He passed this past week - he was almost 12. He was a goofball and was so loving, the best ever.

I'll try to send a picture. Murphy is the big guy. His co-conspirator is Madison, the sweetest girl ever. She is now 8.

Bette, so sorry for the loss of your Murphy. He sounds like he was truly a wonderful boy. I am sure Madison misses her big pal. :(

I thought our dog was a sheltie but just took her to the vet and at 1year and 4months she is 18 inches tall and roughly 38 lbs..very lean though the vet said. We rescued her and thought she was a sheltie and she has stopped growing but hasn't filled out yet of course..extemely hyper ..gallops the back yard like a "bat out of hell" so to speak and barks non stop outside. Could she still be a large sheltie? Can they get that tall? her head reminds of a fox and she is sable in color

Oh they can be that big,,, our first sheltie wAs 52 lbs...yes def overweight but he still stood about 22 inches...he was the big one of the litter,,,lol

My daughter has a black and white sheltie with the "fox face" long and thin. My tri sable charlie aka fat boy weighs 36 lbs and is 19 inches. I also have a black and white female (pixie) on the other end of the spectrum. At 15 weeks she weighs 5 1/2 lbs and is 8 inches tall. All barkers;)
