Don't think breed, think temperament - every dog is different and I would take Megan along to meet the dog on neutral ground and see what she thinks.
Yes a dog allowed to play rough will try it with different dogs, but raised correctly just because a dog is a lab does not mean it will be too boisterous.
I keep saying it but Cadbury was playing with a sheltie at 12 weeks old. They played beautifully, he neither body slammed or bounced on her. They just played chase. She was leading the game and he was happy with that.
I have no concerns about bringing sheltie pup home and introducing him/her to Cadbury.
Perhaps Cadbury is the exception, but he can be trusted with any pup and for that matter any child.
I say this again and again but honestly that does not need to be the case, yes it will depend on the pup, but even bigger pups usually have the sense to be careful around smaller creatures, and a good owner should always make sure interactions are monitored and kept from getting rough.Definitely not a lab/retriever puppy. They are too boisterious for Shelties and would squash them in a nano-second.
