I'm a little scared.....

So we've now gone an entire week with Bacca's:

- lip no longer swollen
- glands no longer hard
- eye no longer goopy
- eating normally, without insisting on sitting next to me

I think he's in the all clear! Even though I still don't know what happened.

I just want to thank everyone again for all the care and support that I received from you during this time. You guys are the best!

You know, Barb, I'll betcha ten bucks to a hole in a donut he was bitten by a spider. :(

So so so happy Bacca is back to normal. Maybe he just had a good infection from something, and it cleared up. Well whatever it was don't get it again Bacca, poor little guy, and poor mom.

When Bacca constantly sat next to you, sounds like a smart sheltie to me, he was telling everyone else stay away, and mom you protect me. Shelties really are smart.

I had men working in the house, and Lucky is used to having men working and making noise. Lady doesn't mind noise or people but when she doesn't like someone putting a cramp in her style, she goes to my bedroom and stays there til they leave. When friends, family and doggie playmates come, that is fine, she loves all the attention. I think shelties have the best body language I have ever seen in a breed. Shelties Do Talk.

Yeah!!

I am so glad :biggrin2: to hear that Bacca is better! My heart and prayers were out to youm thank God he is well. Maybe all those prayers I read about got you a small Miracle. That spider bite sounds like a good guess.

Take care and best wishes.

Shelltee Guy

Haven't been on here in awhile and just reading this now.

Barb, did they ever x-ray his jaw area to see if there was anything to see?

I hope Chris is right and it was "just" a spider bite. If that's the case, it's done and over with.

So glad to hear he's okay and bounding around again! :biggrin2:Sick dogs worry me more than my kids ever did since they can't talk.

Thank God!

I'm just so happy Barb that Bacca is back to his young eager self!!:biggrin2:
I agree with Chris, I bet it was a nasty Spider. That's why I always say the only good bug is a dead one.

As follow up....

The boys both had their annual check up at the vet yesterday. I reminded the vet about Bacca's issue and commented that he still seems very sensitive about having is mouth/jaw touched.

At this point, we can't be sure whether or not he's reacting because of his past experience or whether or not there is still some residual issue going on that he's hiding pretty well.

So, I now have an $800 quote on my desk for:

1) Sedation so that they can do a full examination - that's $200
2) Full anesthetic if they find something that needs to be dealt with (e.g. tooth extraction) - $600

Yipes!

All to say, that apparently, this story is not yet closed.

Of course, I will proceed with the next step. That's a no-brainer! But jeez - I sure wish I'd become either an orthodontist or a vet when I was making my career choices 25 years ago!

I pray that Bacca will not have any problems, and will come through these tests like a breeze. You are a wonderful Sheltie Mom. Just be glad he's not human--the costs are much cheaper for pets.

I hear you, Barb. But if Bacca has a tooth problem, better to deal with it now. Ivy lost most of her teeth by age 7, and by 8 was completely toothless. She looks like a little dolphin. She didn't have periodontal disease, they literally just rotted in her mouth. It cost a small fortune to have the residual extracted and her gums stitched etc. That won't make you feel better about the $800, but if Bacca's OK, it will be worth it. Fingers and paws are crossed...please let us know when it's going to happen.

Poor Bacca! After reading your other post about Bacaa wondering off it made me think (scary, I know). Do you think maybe Bacca wondered off while you were away because he was already starting to hurt? In any case, I hope he feels better soon!
