In the path of hurricane Irene:Owners, dogs, your location

The pictures I have been seeing today on tv are just devastating and yes they do put things in perspective and I know from having been through the fringes of Charley that was 12 miles from us that pictures don't do the actual damage justice. My heart goes out to all of those with damage and the familes that lost loved ones.

I am sure you have LOTS of experience with this, being in Florida. So scary.

My husband was looking up Florida's history with hurricanes and since 1851 the state has had 488, luckily my town has only had two. Donna back in 1960 we took a direct hit and Charley in 2004. He did not come till Aug. 13th a Friday. That was the year we went through the alphabet.
I so hate hurricane season and breath as sigh of relief when it is over and done.

Just took these pictures for my newspaper. These are Irene's souveneirs on my street! In Connecticut alone, 500,000 people still have no power, and 70 percent of my town is still out.

My in-laws aren't scheduled to get their power back until this weekend either. They cancelled the trip to visit us in Pittsburgh because they have to be home for the power company to turn it back on. They also advised against us coming in for a visit since things are still such a mess there.

I went riding up to Kentucky Saturday and can tell you there is a LOT of electric trucks headed your way. I passed whole fleets of them on I75 before I got off onto back roads. They even had some coming from here as our county commissioner verified job done before it was  So now they have to figure out how to remove some of the stuff on county money instead of the paid for stuff (this was from the April tornado swarm)

Glad to hear folks are mostly good and that it did not wind up the CAT3 they originally thought. :eek2:

I heard there is another storm coming, but they don't know yet where it will land. Right now, only a tropical storm with 65km winds, but may develop further.

Hugs to you all...I sure hope you don't get hit again!

YES Thank god for Indiana!!!!!! They were the nicest bunch of guys and we were just a bit excited to see them!! Although they did give us our chuckle for today when they were sitting on our lawn eating their lunch and said ohh is that a lake down the road? We all looked at each other and than it finally clicked...we had to tell them Nooooo that is the bay that leads into the ocean!!

Barb bite your tongue..that storm better go out to sea...as it is right now if we get more than a 30mph wind we are going to lose power as my neighbors tree is uprooted and resting on another tree that is cracked in half and the power company trimmed a few branches away from the lines so they could give us power as the tree was shorting out the neighborhood. And she informed us that she doesnt have the money to get it taken care of so she is just going to wait for it to fall...:no:My brother in-laws own a tree company so im going to try to work a deal with him to down it and we will take care of the rest...

only bright side so far 3 truckloads of wood and there is a 75' oak or maple (it was too dark to tell) down the street we are grabbing tomorrow!!! Woohooooo

I belong to a group of women on the internet and they complained and complained about the coverage of the hurricane and that the weather channel was disappionted it was not bigger when it made land fall. They did not like the hype put on it.
I was wondering what everyones thoughts were on this subject? We get the weather men playing them up as they form but have learned that you can listen and be cautious. I realized after the turn of Charley that you can never be to safe or complancent. You just never know with mother nature and what she will throw at you. Look at Vermont.

For all those who believe the weather stations overreacted...

I think people should stop complaining and be grateful that they made it through the storm unscathed. I had a lot of friends on facebook that were complaining about how calm the storm was than they had anticipated. They're also the same people that would complain the gov't didn't do enough to prepare them if they were severely effected by the storm. I always say, Better safe than sorry!

AGREED!!!

My mom's boss is one of the ones complaining that the storm was overhyped but he lives in an area of PA that didn't suffer from flooding or wind damage.

Sometimes people should shut up and count their blessings because they won't always be so lucky. If you really believe this storm was overhyped, why don't you go lend a hand to those who weren't so lucky.
