Is he on track to be a giant?

My Ember was just over the top of the chart the whole time she was growing. She stopped right at 16". Howver, male dogs tend to grow longer than female, so a male pushing up slightly over the top of the chart seems more likely to go over than a female.

I think Miko's pictures are not showing big bones and knuckles so I would expect him possibly go over but not be a really large sheltie. Che is large sheltie and it was obvious right from start. The only thing I regret that he would be jumping 20" in AKC and while he is very fit and elegant jumper it is a lot of wear and tear on joints after while:cry:

Miko is 19 weeks ... weighs just under 13lbs... and is 13.75 inches tall. According to the chart, that's on track for being oversize.

Has anyone had a puppy that was big early on and then their growth slowed down and they ended up staying in size?

I wouldn't say he is giant size. Define "giant"

Bacca at 12.5 weeks was 8.6 lbs
At 15.5 weeks was 11 lbs
At 9.5 months he was 23 lbs and had pretty much hit his adult size of 17 inches.

At 2.5 years, he is now 30 lbs and still about 17 inches. He is certainly oversize for a Sheltie standard, but I would not say giant. Nor fat. Bacca's extra weight comes from a long and lean body with lots of muscle (as opposed to my Indy who IS fat. Same weight, same height, but short body)

I think at 19 weeks, it's pretty sure that he will grow more, and clearly indicates, at least to me that he will probably end up about the same as Bacca.

I think the pattern is pretty much set at for Miko by now.

But it's just more to love!

Oh I certainly don't think that he's a giant right now... but I've read that they continue growing until around 11 months. When I think of him growing for another 6 months... I can't even imagine how big he'd be. On the other hand.. if I really do the math... if he grows a 1/2 inch for the next 6 months... that would only put him at 16.75" tall. LOL... that's not bad. I had visions of him being 21" or something!! :rolleyes2:

I'm concerned I either have a giant Sheltie or a small collie! Thurston is only 6 months ( rough estimation) and is up to 40lbs. He's about 16-18 inches tall - also a rough estimation.

I'm having issues with him jumping but I can't seem to get through to him to stop.

Sca the Border Sheltie say that is just more to love :biggrin2: Of course carrying his 31lb butt is not on the fun list  Not really sure what is size/weigh was since he dislikes the tape measure. He is somewhere around 18" now and that makes him the largest usually when around Shelties or the smallest around BCs

Toffee is exactly in the same class lol
He has long legs, is 18 inches and also 32 pounds... I can't carry him around.
He still likes to lay in my lap somehow,... but he is only tiny and dainty compared to his girlfriend the Bernese LOL

I love the bigger shelties.. my Lance was an 18 inch blue merle..

Belle is 25 lbs and 17 inches at 15 months.
Sandstorm is 18 inches and 33 lbs-vet said perfect weight for size, he was impressed because he sees so many fat shelties.
I think I have a collie in sheltie clothing. I can't pick him up!! He is beautiful though, at 5 months the breeder told us he had really long legs and would not show, but that's not what we wanted anyways!

Wow, I forgot that Toffee is so big too, like Sandstorm exactly! If I remember, they do resemble each other. SS's butt looks twice as big now that it is winter too!
