Justus was attacked!

I am so sorry you have had this experience. Definitely get both of you checked out and definitely report it even if they ask you not to. If the pit has attacked once, it will again. Hopefully Justus won't have too many memories of the attack.
 
Check your hand and extra soft pets from us to our big buddy Justus. He is such a friendly guy I hope he stays happy. Good save on flyer, sounds like he flew into your arms.
 
I am in tears reading this. I am so sorry and hopefully there is nothing long-lasting physical or psychological.

The thought that you can't even walk from the car to the front door in safety nooooo. Take everyone's advice below.

Thankfully the little pup wasn't the initial focus. God.
 
I am praying that you, Justus and Flyer are going to be OK from this horrific attack. Although technically Flyer was not attacked, watching if happen to Justus could be just as traumatic for your baby. As all others have said, the vet is an absolute necessity and a doctor visit for you as well may be in order. Even if the neighbor asks you not to report this attack, please do NOT let that stop you, if they are asking, there is a reason for that. If Ham has attacked before, they are trying to protect him, he is their "baby" and I get that, but if that is the case it sounds as if they no longer have total control over him, then this dog is a menace to the neighborhood and not safe. Please keep us posted. Thoughts and prayers to your family.

Check your own hand- if you reached in to grab a collar, it's possible the blood was your own... making it even more important to determine the dog's vaccination status. If you got bit, you will probably want to at least consider a tetanus shot.

Thankfully it sounds like it could have been much, much worse. I am sad that poor Justus has to go through this, but it could have been really heartbreaking if the dog had grabbed Flyer- I'm glad you were able to grab the wee one.

I hope the owner is held accountable for this attack. I feel just shocked that someone is NOT in control of their dog!

Poor poor Justus and you for having to endure such a horrific encounter. I hope you both heal physically and emotionally soon! I would be terrified to walk in your neighborhood unless that Pit is indoors!
 
I am so sorry this happened to you and your sweet boy...absolutely terrifying. I agree...be sure to report the incident since the neighbors dog is obviously a potential threat and it needs to be documented. And do have your vet check Justus out carefully...the fact that his neck is tender to touch indicates that at least some serious bruising has taken place and a puncture wound can so easily be overlooked in all that sheltie fur.

The number of attacks we are hearing about is very concerning. :(

Hopefully everything will turn out well. If that had been my dog doing the attacking there would have been no need to ask whether he were vaccinated against rabies. I would have offered the documents immediately, along with the most abject apologies and offer to take care of any vet bills. But then, people who keep vicious dogs and let them run loose very seldom are so broad-minded.
 
I'm so sorry this happened to Justus! This is why I am unafraid to say I hate pitts. Happens much too often with the bully breeds. I also he's not too traumatized by this horrible attack.
 
Oh how awful for you and Justus! Hope he turns out not to have been injured!

A google search of Georgia bite laws finds the law favors the attacker's owner, however some changes were made to the laws. Here is a link to one attorney's info regarding when your pet is attacked.

As it states in the article, a report should be made, otherwise the next time the owner will be able to claim he didn't know.
 
My sheltie girl, Foula, was attacked by a pitbull when she was 4 months old. I still remember it, but she seems that has forgotten that incident, although she is more shy than the male, who could escape of the attack.

I still remember it was frightening, luckly the pitbull weared a muzzle, wich is obligatory by law, if the pitbull didn't wear that, she'll probably be death now...:cry:

I didn't know the owner, I just catch her and runned away from that evil... Since that moment, I always though that pitbulls are as other dogs, and the fame of killers was not correct and an injustice, but now I have changed my mind, they are murder weapons in bad hands, but who controlls that?

I have read at the forum more similar stories that make me think that pitbulls hate in an innate way to the shelties, because there were a lot of dogs there and the pitbull came directly from away to my little puppie....

Its only my opinion, perhaphs or surely, there are good pitbulls, but I think it only happens if they are with professional trainners.
