Justus was attacked!

No offense taken Jeff - I won't respond here however as I feel we are high-jacking this thread and I contributed to that, so if the moderators want to move the pit bull thread somewhere else I'll address your comment there, or here if the feel that is okay. In the meantime I remain very worried about Jutus.

What a scary scenario! I'm so glad none of you were (as far as you know) seriously hurt. I hope there are no lasting emotional/fear reactions from Justus or Flyer. You may need to go back to socialization 101 and really reward calm behavior. You take classes with Justus so at least you have a group of dogs he's familiar with already so that's a great place to start.

Please let us know what the vet says.

Justus is a very lucky dog. Nothing more than a few scratches and some bruising. He's doing fine this morning. After the vet we went for our usual walk with Hugo and Flyer and there was nothing that I noticed, when we were passed by others out walking dogs. We dodged a bullet.

Ham could have killed him but I don't think that was his intent. These two are frustrated by a history of fence fighting, and Ham seized the opportunity to bolt out the door and put Justus in his place (I'm speculating). I think that this is support by Ham not going after Flyer with no more than a glance of interest.

My neighbors and I will talk tonight. The vet bill was not bad, and I think that some training and dog walks will help his alot. Mr. T has fair control of Ham, we just need to get that obedience shaped up and if they walk together frequentry under good control, then the attraction to each other will turn to familiarity and hopefully, peace.

I am certain a very lucky sheltie mom today. This could have been horrible.
I have been getting many life lessons the last few weeks and am coming up very lucky in very unlucky circumstances.

Thank you for the update. I am so relieved to know that Justus is ok and does not seem to be showing and concern towards other dogs.

That is a relief knowing your babies are OK. Yes, a discussion with the neighbor about keeping a large dog with a vendetta under extra vigilance would be a good thing. I believe ALL dog owners have a responsibility to protect the dog, the public, and other dogs 100%.

Thanks Judy. He is showing in 2 weeks, I have to leave him in a sit stay with strange dogs and go out of sight 3 minutes. That will be the real test of his confidence, I think. We are looking for opportunities to practice that before the show.

Great News!
So glad to hear that Justus was not seriously injured and that he is not showing any ill effects of shyness from seeing other dogs!

Nice to know you are open minded about Ham...
.... You are a bigger person than I!

I had a Collie growing up and a German Shepherd two doors down from me just hated him. No reason at all for him to dislike my Duke.

I was coming home from visiting my neighbor across the street and I saw the Shepherd bolted out his front door and came straight at me! He lunged at my face as I was running away from him (bad mistake)! I threw my arm up to shield my face and he grabbed my upper arm and we both fell to the ground.

The owner rushed out of his house screaming... what happened as he pulled his dog off! I said your dog bit me as I held my arm... I was wearing a white shirt and blood was streaming down! He said ... oh, you just fell on a stick!!!

My mother heard the attack and my collie was at the side door of my home ready to bolt out to protect me! My mom said she had NEVER seen his mane stand straight up... she said he looked like a lion.

I was taken to the hospital and the doctor and police could clearly see the two canine puncture marks from his front teeth! I would never have walked with that dog! You are braver than I...

Although I do not distrust German Shepherds... I would never trust the German Shepherd that attacked me!
