Update on Frankie - after his Ultrasound: Ultrasound all clear yay! except for 'sludge' in the gall bladder - which, according to the article that was referenced above, thank you for that, is not uncommon or abnormal, - so bile acid test is being done and will come back on Friday or Saturday to see what may be causing this - still praying for good results. but Frankie seems to be feeling better at this point - minus a little shyness for a bare tummy

Based on results he may go on Actigal for a month - anyone heard of this - apparently a mild medication for improving bile flow - and continue with the Denamarin for a month - and maybe ongoing. Update to come on blood results - thank you for being there to let me share. Kind of scary when your pup is not well, yes? Wish they would just speak English and help us out!

Oh, one more thing - his original blood tests with the high liver values, also showed high cholesterol. Any thoughts on this? I will discuss with vet when I get bile acids back but wondering if you have had experience with this and where to look for a cause.

Actigall (Ursodiol)

Hi Frankienme:

My Haley has been on Actigall along with Denamarin for quite a few months. We saw a steady decline of liver enzymes (now within normal range) and the cholesterol level too! My advice would be to give the Actigall with food. We give the meds in the evening. Haley got smart and would know when we wrapped the capsule around cheese. She would swirl her tongue around in her mouth, lick off the cheese and spit out the capsule. Now I just use a Greenie pill pocket. She thinks she is getting a yummy treat and now no issues.

Apparently some Shelties just have a "sludgy" gall bladder, so it's great that you are on top of it! Let us know how things are going. I'm very interested in hearing about Frankie's progress.

I'm a little surprised to hear about these drugs that both of your dogs are on. My vet has never mentioned them.

Have you done any research on these drugs? I'd love to hear what our forum vets have to say about these.
