MDR1 Test

Just an FYI to anyone doing or wanting to do MDR1 testing and having it recorded w/OFA:

I think I've figured it all out..and of course it's going to be $30 more than I thought..argh. I sent an email to OFA to verify it since it'd be a waste of $70/dog if I did it wrong and they had to be retested w/the correct method.

Order your tests like normal from WA state university. Have a vet take the sample and fill out this form http://offa.org/pdf/dnaappbw.pdf the vet will also have to sign it. Submit the swabs, the WA State Univ submission form, check to WSU for the test, the OFA submission form and a check made out to OFA for $15 to the university. They'll test it and email the owner the results and forward a hard copy and your check to OFA to be recorded.

Like I said that is my guess but there is nothing in the WSU paperwork about OFA submission and nothing on OFA's site about submitting this test either. Once I hear back from OFA if anything above is incorrect I'll fix it.

I was told a vet has to be the one to do it in order for it to be listed on the OFA website.

Nope. I have two CHIC listed dogs, and I did all the swabs. All you do is send a paper copy of the test results, a letter stating you want those results listed, and $25 per dog to OFA. I did this both times with my boys. There is no way I would pay my vet to do this.

From the CHIC website:
"To enter results into CHIC from another source such as PennHIP, GDC, OVC, or parent club maintained databases, there is a one time per dog fee of $25.00. To enter results from any of these organizations, a copy of the test results, the fee, and a signed note requesting the results be entered into the CHIC database should be sent to the OFA. Any additional results after the one time fee is paid are recorded at no charge. Additionally, there is no charge when entering results on an affected animal from a non-CERF/OFA source."
