Meadow has arrived

I used the kitchen scale for Fillion when he was a baby, he was so tiny :love:
I remember being disappointed when Fil didn't want to be held or cuddled and never gave kisses. Independent little cuss from day one. That being said he slept between our pillows, and was often laying by my feet. He wanted to do stuff with me all day long, but just being with me wasn't high on his list until he got sleepy :Yawn:

We had issues with Brodie not being a foodie when we first got him. Breakfast would take until lunch, lunch until dinner. I'd actually put most of dinner into his crate with him at bedtime. He has grown up, sped up a bit, but goodness he still eats quite slow compared to Kooper - the inhaler! Brodie used to like to pick up one piece of kibble at a time, chew, chew, chew. While she is new and adjusting, I'd keep an eye out, add water in if necessary but you don't really want to get her in that habit of needing water added. If you are uber concerned, I'd say add some low sodium chicken broth. So long as she is peeing and pooping, it might just be an adjustment time for her.

Sca set the bar high as he could empty a bowl telepathically from across the room I swear. Spitfire came and learned unattended food ceased to exist (house rule NO raiding a guys bowl if he is there). Angus learned fast and eats faster than Spitfire which is good as the Orange Horror has gotten in trouble for trying to run Angus off his bowl.

My advice is set it down and whatever is not eaten pick it up. Hunger is a wonderful motivator.
 
Sharon she is so cute! It's giving me major puppy fever! Can you remind me how much work she is? lol!

Elise was not a big eater when she came home, and she was fed the same as Meadow at the breeder's. Puppy food in one of those metal bowls in her crate, and food was always available. I worked at it, and hand fed her at all meal times. When she didn't want to work for her food (easy stuff!) then it got put away until the next meal time. She's still my pickiest dog, but cleans her plate at mealtimes!

Ha, Ashley, I can tell you at 5:30 in the morning I'm questioning my sanity when I race her out to potty. We are being so vigilant about getting her out pretty much every hour unless she is asleep, so that is a lot of work and tag-teaming if one of us has to shop or exercise.

But she is really good and a lot of fun. It's settling down a bit with her and Faith. Faith just gets jealous of new arrivals.

Thanks for letting me know about Elise. I was thrilled that she ate her whole lunch today without lifting her head up from the plate except to chew! Yay, hooray! And, had her first bite of banana. That got spit out several times until she figured out how to chew it, then she licked my fingers after so I think she liked it.

LOL this is the only place I can write about that! She has met 9 new people over the last two days, with another friend coming by this afternoon, and the Dachshund puppy is coming over on Tuesday. That should be hilarious.

She is not shy at all which is nice. Really wants the big dogs to play with her but they don't seem too interested. Faith is a bit jealous; I gave her extra lovin's this morning. Honestly, I'm finding a cup a day of food was just way, way too much. Kismet is probably getting half of that now.
I've been giving the kibble in a treat dispenser - I just use empty toilet rolls, sealed the end, cut two holes and voila a treat dispenser that's also a safe chew toy. If she leaves any I just put it away and give it to her a couple of hours later. I had to put it away because my other 2 keep getting in the crate and stealing it, but if Kismet had stayed in her x-pen I would have left it in with her.

I think you are right, Caro. We've cut back to about 1/4 cup for meals and she's eating most of that. A bit of a setback today when my hubby was in charge. She was crying in her pen when he put her food down. I said "She's crying, I think she needs to go out" He said No, I think she's just excited (the other dogs just got let in). WRONG! She was trying to tell him she needed to potty. He let her out of the pen to wander (!!!) and then was upset when she peed twice on the carpet! :rolleyes2: I thought he thoroughly understood the protocol but apparently not. And, this is why I like to be in control!!! :winkgrin:

The good thing is, Meadow is already "getting it" to a certain degree. She really does not cry when left in her pen, so if she does, she's telling us something.
