Well, Suristo's series of "coincidences" led me to wonder if any others felt their Shelties came to them in a "meant-to-be" kind of way? Here's my story. (I'll try not to be too long-winded!!)
Our first Sheltie Skye was the absolute love of our lives. She was so special that we dithered until she was 13 about bringing in another Sheltie. Ultimately we did get Asta, and it was a great combo. Asta learned from Skye and Skye seemed energized and amused by Asta. We lost Skye at 6 weeks short of 15 years old to kidney failure and even now tears fill my eyes typing this, tho it was 7 years ago. She passed at end of August, and by Christmas, we were still so sad and depressed. I couldn't face the holiday at home so we decided to go up to Yosemite and take Asta with us. On the way we decided to visit the breeder to show her how Asta had turned out.
Everyone asked us if we would get another dog to "replace" Skye which just sent me over the edge. I kept saying NO. So, no ulterior motive in visiting the breeder.
After we visit for a while, and seeing her new boy pup she was keeping, Mona casually said, "You know, we are moving and I am getting out of breeding. I have found homes for all my dogs except two girls. If you are interested, I will give you one or both of them because I know what a great home you are". So... I burst into tears!
DH says - "well can we see them?" She let them out of their crates, and oh my gosh. Here goes Ally, doing flying leaps past the sliding glass door, head turned as if to say, "are you catching this?"
Well, we both were attracted to Ally right away, not so much the other girl. I had to have a day to think about it. Decided on Xmas day, yes Ally had to come live with us. What a roller coaster of emotions!
Here's the weird part... when we picked Ally up, Mona gave us her papers. I glance down, and see her dam's name is (kennel name) California Poppy.
THAT WAS SKYE'S DAM's NAME!! I burst into tears again. So, what are the odds?
Asta and Ally went on to be almost like Siamese twins they are so bonded.
Crazy, eh?
