Meet Jake, the newest addition to our family. He is 12 weeks old. My ten year old son named him after the sheepdog character "Jake" from the movie Mist. Jake is the comical, "goofball" border collie in the movie who always makes my son laugh when he watches it, which is why he likes the name Jake so much.
It has been 11 years since we have had a puppy in the house, and although the saying is, "Never say never," this will be my last puppy. As adorable as puppies are, I am exhausted... ALL the time! My son really wanted a puppy and it will be a great experience for him to bond with a puppy and watch him grow. They are best friends already! Our other two shelties weren't too keen about another dog in the house at first, but they warmed up quickly and have welcomed Jake as a part of their "pack."
I have a few photos in my photo album here on Sheltie Nation. One is Jake at 6 weeks when we went to see the litter. Another photo of Jake at the vet shortly after we brought him home... and a recent photo of Jake at 12 weeks. It is fun watching him grow into his soon-to-be adult sheltie body.... longer muzzle, "feathers" (fur) getting longer on his legs, etc.
Btw, Jake weighs 8.56 pounds at 12 weeks. For those of you who have experience with sheltie puppies, how does that weight sound.... about average size for his age or on the larger side? Jake was the largest puppy in a litter of four, but all of the puppies seemed to be on the small side for shelties. Of course, anything can happen during the growing stage... so who knows how large or small he will be... just wondering how he stands now in comparison. Thanks!

. I thought Kaleigh was exhausting, until I brought home Savannah and then I was "educated" to how tiring it really could be, ha. But kids need dogs, so I think it is important to let them have that experience, and being a mom, you just manage like everything else in that job description.
