Miniature Sheltie Inquiry...

Let us know how you make out with her response. I thought it sounded strange how she worded it. Everyone has given good responses to your question of what to say. It sounded like maybe a "designer" Sheltie was wanted.

I might inquire how she defines miniture. Some people think 15in shelties are miniture. Atleast enough people have asked me if my 15 in boy is a miniture. They definitely think my girls 131/4 and 13 3/4 in are minis. Find out their interest as a pet , performance dog or do they want to bred. Just open a dialog and get some info on her. She just might not know. Although the phase if you also breed miniatures is suspious.

I know when we were doing the sheltie stall at Discover Dogs, we had any number of people who came up to see the shelties and often commented "minature shelties". Of course we responed in the usual way
"No these are correct size shelties" and it usually transpired that years ago the public or their family had owned a sheltie that was 18+ inches. The larger shelties don't seem to be as common as they used to be here now, (I think they are acatually really handsome). Those that are used to seeing something a certain size assume anything else is a minature. I've also heard people referring incorrectly to minature shetland ponies. Plus as Barb has said, minature collies is still a term trotted about. People do use odd terms in ignorance.

I would go with gut instinct. Put the feelers out before saying anything too much and if you get the feeling that it's not good, then it probably isn't.

That explains it. All my dogs have full white collars. I should have known.

Now with #4, the one I'm considering is a plain face Tri, black as midnight with just white on the chest, feet and very tip of tail. I hope that doesn't mean he is dumb as a post.

The most wonderful thing is, as soon as they "slip" out, and take their first breath, there is a loving home waiting just for them. Once, Megan and I were whelping a litter, and there seemed to be an "extra" puppy. One we hadn't seen on the xray. The wee little one came out on a hiccup and as I brought her into the world, I exclaimed "Megan! Cindy has her little girl!". And she does, and her name in Tallulah!

Do you ever have people request the big ones too? I would never want one of the little ones, I like them bigger!

Yes, sometimes we get those requests too! Plus, "Not too tall, and not too small". And some funny ones, like, "I only want one with tipped ears", or "I only want one with a white tip on the end of it's tail, our last sheltie had that."
