Well, our Papillon, Zipper, used to dig the floor to “cover up” food that he didn’t want to eat just yet. It didn’t seem to bother him that the floor was wood and his digging didn’t hide anything lol! I guess mammals (including humans)evolve but some traits hang on longer than others

Big Minnie often "dig" in carpet of the living room when she is really tired.

Every night when we go to bed she "makes" her bed (the big pillow)
and it can take a loooong time - when she's done
she can think of going to bed on the wooden floor

All three of mine do this to some to degree, but Trixi, my Pomeranian makes a huge production out of it. It can take her a whole five minutes of determined scratching to get her bed just right! The Shelties stand and stare at her like she is crazy when she is doing this.

Every dog I have had other than my Pyrenees have done some digging in beds and blankets...we call it nesting lol. I thought it was a common thing.

Dixie and Jocu do it all the time- Destin a little and I don't think Cran has ever done it.....

Zulu does it, Cody never did. Whenever he does it, it is usually "good night".

Everybody at Nattering Springs is a "nester." Bitsy Boodle used to work at it for so long and so intently, we'd just shake our heads and laugh. Hell-o, Bits? It's an Orvis bed -- it does NOT scrunch!!

Bailey often "digs" a spot before laying down... her beds, my bed, the couch, carpet, etc. Very normal behavior.

It's only concerning if they can't seem to get comfortable, digging for a while, turning. Then they might be in pain.
