My boy has the staggers

I just got charlie back, and all the tests came back fine. blood, ecg and x-rays all good...

The vet tends to agree, and she is going to find out more about it.

I have to say charlie is feeling ok, he is eating all his dinner and drinking and still chasing birds in the backyard.
 
Years ago I had given Danny Boy his flea and tick drops and the next morning, in the cool of the day, I took him for a walk. After about a mile I decided to head back home because he was acting disoriented and started staggering. Half way back he laid down and wouldn't get back up. I carried him home. The vet said to watch him closely. After home and a nap he was fine. This has never happened again but I also do not walk him after he gets his flea drops for at least two days. And I watch him closely. When he gets his vaccines I keep him quiet for a few days. I am rethinking his vaccines after reading some of the posts on here. He is ten now. I hope all your pup needs is a cookie to prevent the condition. It is disturbing to say the least when they act like that.

Hope Charlie doesn't have another episode. If it were hypoglycemia, I guess that's not as bad and more easily solved than if it were something more?

This is what I love about this forum. You always learn something new. I'll be sure to keep this in mind, given that I feed raw and it's hot and humid year round.
 
I spoke to the vet today and she told me to ring these people about doing a test for EIC.

when i spoke to them, they said a sheltie will be negative to EIC but i need to do a test for BCC (border collie collapse)

Problem i have they dont do it and i cant find anyone in australia that can do it.
If charlie has this, its not that bad as long as i dont over do it with him.

Can anyone help with the test, on where i can get it done in australia.

University of Minnesota Veterinary studies is researching border collie collapse. Maybe they can help. Much info. About BCC on their webpage. Just google the university and BCC.
