My girl has Lyme! Needing advice, and offering some of my own.

Gavin's eating fluctuates, so some times he has teeney poops. and then sometimes he has huge poops. it can take a while for things to move. I used to freak out if Gavin didn't poop for a day, but now I know it's normal. he'll usually poop on day 2. we talk about poop a lot here, so no warning needed :) I know that baby food gives Gavin messy poops (kinda soft serve consistency) and he smells funny (sweet). I've been using a good poop supplement (perfect poop I think?) someone here recommended and it has helped

Hey everyone!

Not much good news today sadly. Tomorrow I need to bring her in and they have to flush her kidneys. Tonight, they gave me some special food which she’s thankfully really interested in. With the vet’s permission I’m using that interest to trick her into drinking lots of waters

My husband has a five day weekend and will be running her to and from the vet as needed. Sorry if this doesn’t make sense! I’m a daze but I’ll still keep everyone posted.

Thanks all. I had a long talk with the vet tech. She says there’s a lot of hope.

Over the course of the afternoon and night I got her to drink about three cups worth of water and she ate about half the can of special food. That’s what they said she should have. I got her to drink by giving her small spoons of dog food in her bowl under a few tablespoons of water at a time. Took all night but worked!

Thank you all, friends. Today was nerve wracking; last night was worse. Basically stayed up all night scaring myself.

My husband drove Naga and I to the vet, then me to work, where she got IVs all day then was able to come home with us. Back again tomorrow and Saturday. Her spirits are still high, and she’s still gobbling up the KD food, and she even drank plain water of her own accord! I was very happy for that. I won’t really know anything until Saturday but I’m treasuring her even more than normal until then.

Sorry to hear about Naga! I do hope they get her kidneys flushed out and her feeling better soon.

I'm in New England, vigilant with tick meds, we clear our yard of every leaf every fall, removed all underbrush, spray the perimeter where the dogs don't go and Brodie still got Lyme's in 2021. He doesn't like gabapentin, vet also gave Meloxidyl which Deacon LOVED when he was neutered but Brodie would spit out. I got him to take his doxy but had to constantly switch out the 'pill pockets'; sometimes squished into a section of string cheese, sometimes peanut butter, sometimes skinny cow cheese, if I could put a tiny hole in it - I'd try it! They are smart dogs and clue in to stuff real quick.

I'm with Ann and use low sodium chicken broth when I am trying to get more liquids in - with my foodies, even if they don't feel all that great, seems like they can't resist the smell.

I sure hope your baby is feeling better soon!

This was reassuring to read, thank you. This morning she wouldn’t take her cheese medicine which scared me but I think you’re right, she’s just caught on. Wasn’t too interested in her food this morning either but she did have some treats. Thank you for the well wishes.

She’s back at the vet’s now, for day 2 of 3 of the flush. Last night was scary, they kept her catheter in but wrapped her leg way too tight. Her paw swelled horribly so I unwrapped and rewrapped it (emergency services wouldn’t advise me because they’re technically a different office) which fixed it and they didn’t give me any trouble for it today.
