Hi !!! Just wanted to say hello. I am so glad I found this forum. We just put our Sheltie, Speckle to sleep yesterday, unexpectedly. When we took him to the vet, for what we thought was a stomach upset, he was found to have cancer in his liver. He was just 8 years old. We had another Sheltie pass away at 9, just 2 years ago from the same thing. I can't believe Speckle isn't with us anymore...........still kind of in shock. We have 2 other Shelties and a Shih Tsu at home. Moppet is 10, and we have had her from a puppy. Sonny is 7 and we just got him 2 years ago when a breeder retired him. Our Shih Tsu is Powder, and she is 7. I live in Ontario Canada. Has anyone else had Shelties die from a liver cancer. I am not sure whether this was the primary or secondary site of the cancer. Amazing how the dog can be acting normally, and then just get rapidly ill and be gone within 24 to 48 hours. I am so glad to have a forum with other Sheltie owner, who understand. Thank you. Susan

Susan, although I am so sorry to know that it's Speckle's passing that brought you here, I want to welcome you with open arms. Here you'll find comfort and support. May St. Francis care for Speckle as he waits for you at Rainbow Bridge.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's always difficult when you lose one but even harder when they are so young.

I have had seven Shelties previous to the two I have now, five of them have developed some type of cancer. One throat cancer, one bladder cancer, one pancreatic cancer and two liver cancers. One of the Shelties with liver cancer was only six years old when he passed away.

I've also lost two of my six Shelties to cancer, and the one thing I've learned is that you don't know when or why it happens. I found the National Canine Cancer Foundation to be very helpful answering questions and giving information on canine cancer:

I'm very sorry about Speckle's passing. I hope you find comfort in your memories and your other pups. We're sorry for what brought you here but glad that you've joined us. I hope we can help.

Welcome to the Sheltie Nation Forum. I am so sorry that you found us under these circumstances. I am so sorry for your loss.

Please feel free to post a tribute to Speckle in our rainbow bridge section of the forum.

Danielle

Thank you

Thank you everyone for your words of sympathy. I really appreciate every kind word. I will post Speckle, and our dog Bear who passed away 2 years ago. They are forever in my heart. Susan

Where do I find the Rainbow Bridge?

Hi - I can't seem to find the Rainbow Bridge to post my Shelties. Can anyone help? Susan

I am so sorry to hear of Speckle's passing. I recently lost my 10yr old Chandler. Many here know the heartache you are experiencing. We are all here for you. Prayers to you and your family.
