I just wanted to share a few pics of new puppy that arrived with horrible rash/skin funk.
And Another important question to ask a breeder when you're seeking one out to add a new family member.
Doing all of my home work and reference checks etc. I welcomed home a little male puppy on the 21st. (7 months old) He came from a very well known breeder within the fancy.
I was holding my little boy and massaging him to relax him and felt all sorts of things on his skin. Upon parting his fur and looking it appears he has some sort of skin lesion issue. They are displayed in three different stages of progression. There are little pink bumps in clusters, some that have erupted and some scabbed over. Also he has what I thought was flea dirt, but this is also attached to his skin and can't be removed. I am attaching a link to photos if anyone can shed some light or thoughts I would appreciate it.
NEW QUESTION TO ASK BREEDER (not yelling, just important.
Though this is a highly respected breeder actively showing, that is all she is doing...showing. She doesn't raise her puppies. She hires people to tend to them daily.
That is a question I would never have thought of asking...Who raises your puppies? What experience do they have etc. I know sometimes breeders help other breeders with raising and socializing. This is far from that circumstance. I found this out after the fact.
I sent her the pictures that I linked to and she had no idea what this was. Wouldn't a breeder have some sort of idea? Maybe not, but it just seems strange.
Health Certificate to fly, the vet didn't notice it either. I will say, you have to get right to the skin to feel it. It smells horrible once touched and it is very pungent in the room.
So how does this end. The breeder/woman is taking him back, I am getting a full refund including airfare that I paid for his travel.
It amazes me what I didn't know to ask. I asked everything...or so I thought. It is indeed something I never would have thought to ask if I hadn't learned from this. So this poor puppy is in his crate other than when I take him outside to play. I can't allow him free reign not knowing what it is he has.
Shame on everyone involved in this puppies life!!! I have thoughts of calling the SPCA where this woman lives to have her kennel checked. If this is contagious she has other dogs that could be stricken with it too.
Thoughts, feedback, idea of what this might be, anything appreciated.
